| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Jack Allen Tosh of Elmhurst, who passed | 4 | | away on February 11, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Tosh was born in Los Angeles, California; he | 6 | | grew up in Decatur and played basketball, football, and | 7 | | baseball at Decatur High School; he was courted by the Chicago | 8 | | Cubs but decided to attend college; he earned an education | 9 | | degree from Northwestern University, where he played | 10 | | basketball and was captain of the baseball team; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, After 2 years in the Marines, Jack Tosh began | 12 | | teaching at Evanston Township High School and coached several | 13 | | sports; he received a master's degree in education | 14 | | administration from Northwestern and then joined DeKalb High | 15 | | School in 1968; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Jack Tosh coached high school boys basketball in | 17 | | DeKalb and as head coach took the team to a 4th-place finish in | 18 | | the State tournament; he was athletic director for many years | 19 | | at York High School in Elmhurst, beginning in the mid-1970s; | 20 | | after his retirement from York H.S. in 1990, the school named | 21 | | its holiday basketball tournament in his honor; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In 1989, Jack Tosh was inducted into the Illinois | 2 | | Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2001, the Illinois | 3 | | Basketball Coaches Association, which was co-founded by him, | 4 | | awarded him the Tom "Buzzy" O'Connor award; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Tosh is survived by his wife of 59 years, | 6 | | Benette "Bee"; his children, Stephen (Diane) Tosh, Lisa (Clay) | 7 | | Parcells, and Linda Tosh; his grandchildren, Brett (Diana), | 8 | | Lauren (Jason), Courtney, Sarah, Nicholas, Logan, and Katrina; | 9 | | his brother, David (Dina) Tosh; and his pets, Seven and Addy; | 10 | | therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Jack Tosh, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 14 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Jack Tosh as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
