| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Werner Ellmann of Geneva, who passed away | 4 | | on January 24, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Werner Ellmann was born in Bodenwoehr, Germany to | 6 | | George and Anna Maria (nee Gross) Ellmann on February 16, 1924; | 7 | | he was a decorated veteran of World War II; he helped liberate | 8 | | prisoners at the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria and | 9 | | was a translator at the Nuremberg war trials; he married | 10 | | Elizabeth A. Hagen in Chicago on September 16, 1950; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Werner Ellmann was a successful publisher, | 12 | | editor, and salesman, finishing his career with McGraw-Hill; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Werner Ellmann fought for civil rights, including | 15 | | actively marching and protesting in the 1960s; he was a | 16 | | passionate advocate for volunteering, including with the | 17 | | McHenry Parole Division and the Peace and Justice Committee of | 18 | | Woodstock; he founded Habitat for Humanity in McHenry County, | 19 | | was Vice-Chairman of the McHenry County Human Relations | 20 | | Council, served on the Pioneer Center Foundation Board, | 21 | | co-founded an anti-bullying program called Principled Minds, | 22 | | and frequently spoke to school groups about the atrocities of |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Werner Ellmann was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents and his 2 brothers, Herbert and Wilfried Ellmann; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Werner Ellmann is survived by his wife of 65 | 5 | | years, Elizabeth; his 3 sons, Lance (Barbara) Ellmann, David | 6 | | Ellmann, and Matthew (Kathleen) Ellmann; his daughter, Anne | 7 | | Marie Schafer; his brother, Norbert "William" (Macrina) | 8 | | Ellmann; his 6 grandchildren, Megan (Jason) Nachowicz, Emily | 9 | | (Ryan Martinez) Ellmann, Elizabeth Ellmann, Kyle Ellmann, Evan | 10 | | Ellmann, and Nina Ellmann; and his great-grandson, Grayson Cole | 11 | | Martinez; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Werner Ellmann, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
