| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to honor Anthony White for his 50 years of | 4 | | music ministry service in Illinois and Missouri; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Anthony White currently serves as Minister of | 6 | | Music at Mount Gideon Missionary Baptist Church of University | 7 | | City, Missouri; he began playing the piano and organ at the | 8 | | young age of 14, under the instruction of Mike Zikovich at the | 9 | | Sonny Shields Music Studio; he later received instruction from | 10 | | the Margie Olive School of Music; growing up in Friendship | 11 | | Baptist Church, he served as the musician for the youth choir; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Since that time, Anthony White has shared his gift | 14 | | of music at many churches throughout the Greater Metropolitan | 15 | | St. Louis and East St. Louis areas; he previously served as a | 16 | | musician at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Church, | 17 | | Morning Star of East St. Louis, Morning Star of St. Louis, the | 18 | | Holy Ghost Tabernacle, Greater Calvary Missionary Baptist | 19 | | Church, Cherubim Baptist Church, Union Tabernacle Church, | 20 | | Leonard Baptist Church, Mercy Seat Baptist Church, Cornerstone | 21 | | Baptist Church, Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, Mount | 22 | | Herald Church, and Pleasant Green Baptist Church, among others; | 23 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Anthony White has had the | 2 | | opportunity to work with other gospel greats, such as his | 3 | | personal friend Reverend James Cleveland, his mentor Reverend | 4 | | Charles Nicks, Charles Fold, Casetta George, Albertina Walker, | 5 | | the O'Neil Twins, Jack McGill, Gladys Givens, and Jeanetta | 6 | | Bradley; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Anthony White has had some of his most meaningful | 8 | | experiences in gospel music, including arranging, songwriting, | 9 | | and playing at Madison Square Garden, Constitutional Hall, the | 10 | | Civic Auditorium in Houston, Texas, the Municipal Auditorium in | 11 | | Atlanta, Georgia, McCormick Place in Chicago, and the Powell | 12 | | Symphony Hall, Kiel Auditorium, and Scottrade Center in St. | 13 | | Louis; he has been involved with the Gospel Music Workshop of | 14 | | America for over 45 years, serving the organization on the | 15 | | national and local levels and as a member, musician, assistant | 16 | | chapter representative, and co-chapter representative; he also | 17 | | wrote the song "I Don't Need Nobody Else", which is still being | 18 | | performed by choirs across the country; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his contributions to the church | 20 | | community, Anthony White is also involved by serving as a voice | 21 | | for his neighborhood in East St. Louis; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Anthony White has been |

| 1 | | known for his fancy and debonair style and fashion, his rich | 2 | | practice of teaching traditional gospel music, especially | 3 | | hymns, and for bringing out the best in every voice under his | 4 | | leadership; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 7 | | honor Anthony White for his 50 years of music ministry service | 8 | | and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and | 9 | | be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to Anthony White as a symbol of our esteem and | 12 | | respect.
