| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr., who passed away | 4 | | on February 1, 2016 at the age of 70; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was born on September 25, | 6 | | 1945 in Catron, Missouri; his parents were J.C. Coleman, Sr. | 7 | | and Eupha Lee Branch Coleman; he moved to North Chicago with | 8 | | his parents at a very early age; he remained there through high | 9 | | school, where he played football and was a State champion | 10 | | wrestler; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Pastor J.C. | 12 | | Coleman, Jr. immediately enlisted in the United States Army | 13 | | during the Vietnam era; he was honorably discharged in 1967; | 14 | | and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Pastor J.C. Coleman, | 16 | | Jr. served Mt. Sinai Baptist Church faithfully as a Sunday | 17 | | school teacher for several years; he later moved his membership | 18 | | to Antioch Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend | 19 | | Perry, where he was ordained as a Deacon and later accepted his | 20 | | call into the ministry; he subsequently attended McKinley | 21 | | Theological Seminary, where he earned an associate's degree; | 22 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a faithful member of | 2 | | the New Era District for many years, serving as Secretary to 4 | 3 | | Moderators, including Reverend Blackwell, Reverend Lightfoot, | 4 | | and currently Pastor Roberson; in 2006, he was called to serve | 5 | | as Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Waukegan, | 6 | | where he served faithfully until his passing; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was an avid sportsman; he | 8 | | continued playing football in the Army and on 2 | 9 | | semi-professional teams, the Lake County Rifles and the Racine | 10 | | Raiders; he also spent many years as a referee on the high | 11 | | school level; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. loved his community and | 13 | | was a community activist who never hesitated to speak up for | 14 | | what he believed was right for the community; he supported and | 15 | | remained active in his community, coaching football for Holy | 16 | | Family School, helping to organize and coach the Flames for the | 17 | | North Chicago Park District, and helping to coach football and | 18 | | wrestling at North Chicago High School; he also organized and | 19 | | coached track and field for the Park District and served for | 20 | | one year as an assistant coach for the St. Joseph High School | 21 | | of Kenosha Track and Field team, where he led the girls team to | 22 | | victory at the Wisconsin state track meet for the first time in | 23 | | the school's history; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a Boy Scout leader | 2 | | for several years; he enjoyed teaching and working with young | 3 | | people, fishing, hunting, and gardening; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was preceded in death by | 5 | | his parents; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. is survived by his | 7 | | devoted wife, Inette Coleman, whom he married on August 12, | 8 | | 1967; his sons, Jarrod (Joyce) Coleman, Courtney (Abby) Johns, | 9 | | Ryan Eatmon, and Javontay Connor; his daughters, Cydney (Eric) | 10 | | Matthews, Pamela (Trevor) Daly, Kristal (Robert) Cross, and | 11 | | Kathy (Nathaniel) Hall; his grandchildren, Patrick, Jarrod, | 12 | | Jonathan, Pierce, and Joyce Coleman, Brianna, Amber, and Erica | 13 | | Mathews, Leila Eatmon, Nicholas and Madisen Daly, and Kennedy | 14 | | Elise Hall; his brothers, Michael (Margaret) Coleman, Willie | 15 | | (Melinda) Coleman, Dennis (Cheryl) Coleman, and Gerald | 16 | | (Cheryl) Coleman; his sisters, Pauline (Joe) Flowers and Betty | 17 | | Dean Jones; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other | 18 | | relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 21 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Pastor J.C. Coleman, | 22 | | Jr.; and be it further
