| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Louis Frederick Welch of Urbana, who | 4 |
| passed away on March 13, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born at Linden, Tennessee, on March 29, | 6 |
| 1931, to Louis and Hilda Houston Welch; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, He graduated from the University of Tennessee, | 8 |
| Auburn University, and Iowa State University; he was a member | 9 |
| of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Gamma Sigma Delta, Alpha Zeta, | 10 |
| Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected a fellow in the Soil Science | 12 |
| Society of America and in the American Society of Agronomy; he | 13 |
| worked at the Georgia Experiment Station, the United States | 14 |
| Department of Agriculture, and the agronomy department at the | 15 |
| University of Illinois; his research dealt with soil fertility | 16 |
| and fertilizers; he retired from the U of I in 1990; since | 17 |
| retirement, Marilyn and Fred have enjoyed travel, collecting | 18 |
| seashells, and fossilized shark teeth; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his | 20 |
| sister, Patsy Peach; and

| WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, whom he | 2 |
| married in 1956 at Cherokee, Alabama; his three sons, Charles | 3 |
| Welch, Tom Welch, and Steven Welch; his five granddaughters and | 4 |
| three grandsons; his sister, Mae Phy; and his brother, Ted; | 5 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 7 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 8 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Louis Frederick Welch; | 9 |
| and be it further
| 10 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 |
| presented to the family of Louis Frederick Welch as a symbol of | 12 |
| our sincere sympathy.
