| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Carrie Lou Jones of Chicago, who passed | 4 | | away on July 16, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones was born in Oxford, Mississippi to | 6 | | Elijah Vaughn and Mandy Ella Vaughn on January 24, 1931; she | 7 | | was the second of eight children; she attended Oxford Training | 8 | | School; she married John McEwen in 1949, and he preceded her in | 9 | | death; together, they had 10 children; she earned her | 10 | | Associate's in Early Childhood Education from Loop Junior | 11 | | College, now known as Harold Washington College; she married | 12 | | Joe Jones, and he preceded her in death; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones worked at the University of | 14 | | Mississippi before moving to Chicago in 1953; after earning her | 15 | | associate's degree, she worked as an educator for many years | 16 | | and loved working with children; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones committed to her faith at an early | 18 | | age at Second Baptist Church in Oxford, Mississippi; she became | 19 | | a member of Old Ship of Zion Church in 1973; she became a | 20 | | member of the Cathedral Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago in | 21 | | 1975, where she served as president of the Pastor's Aide, the | 22 | | Missionary Board, and the Mother's Board; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones was an active member of the United | 2 | | American Progress Association; she enjoyed board games, card | 3 | | games, dominoes, and solving crossword puzzles; she loved | 4 | | spending time and creating memories with her family; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones was preceded in death by her parents; | 6 | | her husbands; her daughter, Mary Jean; her sisters, Lillie | 7 | | Ruffin, Dorothy Pratt, Betty Martin, and Alfreda Walker; her | 8 | | brother, Eddie Vaughn; and three grandchildren, Tyler McEwen, | 9 | | Samuel Thomas, and Nacole Nieto; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Carrie Jones is survived by her children, Robert | 11 | | (Brender), Shirley (Gary), Idella (Elias), Doris (Orius), | 12 | | John, James (Linda), Carolyn, Cedric (Juanita), and Erwin | 13 | | (Debee); her 29 grandchildren; her 51 great-grandchildren; her | 14 | | nine great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Judge Ivy Jr.; | 15 | | her sister, Dilcy Ivy; her sister-in-law, Cecilia Vaughn; a | 16 | | host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her lifelong friends, | 17 | | Annie Bell Wilson and Virgie Lee Maylor; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Carrie Lou Jones and extend our sincere condolences to her | 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 22 | | further
