| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Helen Franks Lindow was born the 4th day of | 3 |
| February, 1935 in Joliet, Illinois to Carol and Lottie Franks, | 4 |
| the second of five siblings, sister to Herbert, Betty, Sheldon, | 5 |
| and Judy; Helen and her family have been members of | 6 |
| Congregation Knesseth Israel (CKI) for over 70 years; at a very | 7 |
| early age she had the privilege of learning the Aleph Bet and | 8 |
| experienced the teachings of Rebbitzen Twersky serving to | 9 |
| instill in her the commitment to Judaism; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Helen Lindow is nearly a life-long resident of the | 11 |
| City of Marengo and is a member of one of the only practicing | 12 |
| Jewish families there, made possible with the support and | 13 |
| commitment of her parents and siblings; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Helen Doris Franks married Manfred "Lenny" Lindow | 15 |
| on March 4, 1956, and together they raised three sons: Edgar, | 16 |
| Gene, and Kenneth; and are the proud grandparents of Justin and | 17 |
| Adam Pheifer, Danielle, Melissa, and Geoffrey Lindow, and | 18 |
| Yehuda, Shimon, Tamima, Sara, and Bracha Lindow; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Helen and Manfred Lindow started Lindow's | 20 |
| Appliances in 1958 with an inventory of six freezers and have | 21 |
| served the community successfully for over 49 years; and

| WHEREAS, Helen Lindow has served at CKI as the President of | 2 |
| Bnai' Brith women, as a board member of Hadassah and | 3 |
| Sisterhood, and is currently the chairperson for "Keepers of | 4 |
| the Gate" at Hadassah; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Helen Lindow is the current Chairman of the Board | 6 |
| of First National Bank of Marengo, having served as a member | 7 |
| since its inception in 1974; Helen also helped create the | 8 |
| Wonder Lake State Bank in 1979 and has served on the board | 9 |
| since then; and she was a founding member of The Bricton Group | 10 |
| in 1989, a hotel management company located in four states; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Helen Lindow continues to graciously support many | 12 |
| organizations, giving of her
time, of her talent, and of her | 13 |
| treasure to numerous charities including seminaries and
| 14 |
| children's homes in Marengo, Chicago, and Israel; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 16 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Helen
Lindow of Marengo, | 17 |
| in receiving the Teachers Institute for Women of Hebrew
| 18 |
| Theological College's esteemed Avigayil Award; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The Teachers Institute for Women of Hebrew
| 20 |
| Theological College's members have chosen to call these great | 21 |
| efforts to the attention of
her fellow citizens, her family, | 22 |
| and her friends at a reception in her honor; and

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 2 |
| Representatives wish to recognize
Helen Lindow on her numerous | 3 |
| accomplishments and for her current recognition
as a recipient | 4 |
| of the distinguished Avigayil Award; therefore, be it
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 6 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 7 |
| Saturday, March 10, 2007 be designated as a day of tribute to | 8 |
| honor Helen Lindow, not only for her efforts as a great | 9 |
| humanitarian, but also in recognition of her labors and | 10 |
| activities on behalf of a score of institutions, agencies, and | 11 |
| civic committees; as recipients of the philanthropic works of | 12 |
| Helen Lindow, communities have benefited both here and abroad; | 13 |
| and be it further
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 |
| presented to Helen Lindow as a symbol of our respect.
