| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas F. Sturr of Pentwater, Michigan, | 4 | | who passed away on August 23, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Sturr was born in Chicago on August 30, | 6 | | 1935 to Anthony and Estelle (nee Rimkus) Sturr; he graduated | 7 | | from St. Ignatius High School (now St. Ignatius College Prep) | 8 | | in 1953 and studied at John Carroll University; he later | 9 | | graduated from the University of Detroit (now University of | 10 | | Detroit Mercy) with a degree in architectural engineering; he | 11 | | married Dolores Kuchar in Berwyn on January 25, 1958, and they | 12 | | settled in Oak Park; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Sturr worked with architectural firms | 14 | | Shaw, Metz & Dolio and C.F. Murphy Associates and then became a | 15 | | partner with Perkins & Will; he then started his own firm, | 16 | | Thomas F. Sturr Architect, in Oak Park; he later formed the | 17 | | firm Sturr Young Associates; his projects included the | 18 | | restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple, with the | 19 | | consultation of Frank Lloyd Wright's son, Lloyd; his other | 20 | | projects included working on banks, commercial institutions, | 21 | | and the Oak Park Mall in the 1970s; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Sturr was a competitive |

| 1 | | Chicago-to-Mackinac sailboat racer since 1960; he discovered | 2 | | Pentwater, Michigan on a return trip from Mackinac Island and | 3 | | moved his family there in 1976; his architectural firm in | 4 | | Pentwater contributed to the harbor skyline with numerous | 5 | | projects, including St. Vincent Catholic Church; after | 6 | | retirement in June of 1998, he developed his love of watercolor | 7 | | painting while continuing to work on architectural projects; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Sturr was preceded in death by his parents; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Sturr is survived by his wife of 56 years, | 12 | | Dolores; his 5 sons, Mark, Kurt (Kathy), Tomas (Beth), Eric | 13 | | (Heather), and John (Madeline); his 8 grandchildren, Anthony, | 14 | | Andrea, Cameron, Kailey, Cooper, Brendan, Alec, and Connor; 2 | 15 | | great-grandchildren, Dylan and Brady; his brother, Edward | 16 | | (Penny) Sturr; his brother-in-law, Chuck (Betsy) Kuchar; and | 17 | | many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Thomas F. Sturr, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 22 | | further
