| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas G. "Jerry" Hays of Catlin, who | 4 | | passed away on December 10, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was born to Thomas and Leotta (nee | 6 | | Smith) Hays; he graduated from Oakwood High School and attended | 7 | | Danville Area Community College; he married Hilda Gouty on | 8 | | April 11, 1962 in Danville; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Hays worked as maintenance supervisor for | 10 | | the Illinois Power Company (now Ameren) at the Vermilion Power | 11 | | Station in Oakwood for more than 40 years; under his | 12 | | supervision, the plant was awarded numerous company-wide | 13 | | safety awards; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was a past president of the Catlin | 15 | | Summer Youth League, and he was a member of the Illinois | 16 | | National Guard and the Davis Busby Catlin American Legion Post | 17 | | 776; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was an accomplished master craftsman | 19 | | who could tackle any project or task; he was jokingly known by | 20 | | his family as a mathematical genius; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Hays is survived by his wife, Hilda; his | 2 | | son, State Representative Chad (Ruth) Hays; his 2 daughters, | 3 | | Carla (Dean) Modglin and Karen (Mike) Ostaffe; his 8 | 4 | | grandchildren, Leighton and Caleb Peavler, Damon Hays, Grace | 5 | | and Evan Modglin, and Kate, Michael, and Xander Ostaffe; his 2 | 6 | | great-grandsons, Greyson and Wesley Peavler; his sister, | 7 | | Marilyn (Jerry) Atkins; his niece, Wendy (Doug) Taylor; and his | 8 | | 2 nephews, Eric (Carlyn) Atkins and Brian (Laurie) Atkins; | 9 | | therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Thomas G. "Jerry" Hays, and extend our sincere condolences to | 13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
