| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of William Arnold Ashby of
| 4 |
| Chicago on April 11, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ashby was born on February 14, 1940, in | 6 |
| Owensboro, Kentucky, to Horace Sr. and Helen (Bowles) Ashby; | 7 |
| and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He began his career in law enforcement as an | 9 |
| Illinois county employee and actively served as a city employee | 10 |
| for 33 years; he was a county sheriff, city investigator, | 11 |
| bodyguard to Mayor Richard M. Daley and, most recently, | 12 |
| Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Consumer Services - | 13 |
| Public Vehicle Division; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He married Wilhelmena Mayfield on October 26, | 15 |
| 1962; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; one | 17 |
| brother, John Price; and three sisters, Frieda Nelson, Dorothy | 18 |
| Stewart, and Anna Marie Carter; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of William Arnold Ashby is felt by all | 20 |
| who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Wilhelmena; his | 21 |
| daughters, Adrienne (Charles) Stone, Aleathea Wilson, Wilda | 22 |
| Ashby, and Cynthia Shelton-Ashby; his sons, Leroy (Rosetta) | 23 |
| House and Joseph (Melvlyn) House; his grandchildren and | 24 |
| great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen (Robert) Wingard, | 25 |
| Audrey Carter, and Evelyn Williams; his brother, Horace Ashby | 26 |
| Jr.; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, | 27 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 29 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
