| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Margaret D. Horrigan of Joliet, who | 4 |
| passed away on January 5, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on May 15, 1927, and raised in | 6 |
| Lockport before moving to Joliet; Margaret Irene was the only | 7 |
| daughter of Genevieve (Casey) Dailey and Aloysius Patrick | 8 |
| Dailey; she was the youngest grandchild of Civil War veteran | 9 |
| Lt. James Casey of the Grand Army of the Republic, and niece of | 10 |
| Monsignor Joseph Casey of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in | 11 |
| Chicago, and, through both sets of grandparents, was related to | 12 |
| numerous families among Lockport's and Lemont's oldest | 13 |
| settlers; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, She was a valued member of St. Paul the Apostle | 15 |
| Church, Joliet (attended by all of her eight children), the | 16 |
| Visitation and Aid Society, St Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, St. | 17 |
| Paul's Mothers Club, Joliet Junior Women's Club, Saint Francis | 18 |
| Academy (class of 1945), and St Mary of the Woods (class of | 19 |
| 1948); she married her high school sweetheart, John Hurley | 20 |
| Horrigan, at St. Dennis Church in 1948; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, A life-long Democrat, Marge was on the floor of | 22 |
| the 1956 Democratic Presidential Convention in Chicago when |

| Adlai Stevenson received the presidential nomination, and, | 2 |
| loading them into the station wagon, took her young children to | 3 |
| many of John F. Kennedy's whistle-stop appearances throughout | 4 |
| Will County during his successful presidential campaign in | 5 |
| 1960; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, | 7 |
| Aloysius Patrick and Genevieve Dailey; her son, Patrick | 8 |
| Horrigan; her grandson, Eliot Horrigan; and two brothers, | 9 |
| William J. Dailey and Robert Dailey; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Margaret Horrigan is survived by her loving and | 11 |
| devoted husband of 60 years, John H. Horrigan; her seven | 12 |
| children, Peter, William, Anne (Amy Szczepaniak), Betsy (Tim) | 13 |
| Carlin, Margaret (Karl) Schmitz, Stephen, and Catherine (Doug) | 14 |
| Mohundro; her daughter in-law, Betsy Hollister Dvorak; her | 15 |
| eleven grandchildren, Amanda (Keith) Gregory, Nina (William) | 16 |
| Manley, Benjamin Horrigan, Ellen (R.D.) McCabe, and Zoe | 17 |
| Horrigan; Thomas, Gabriel, and Courtney Christopher; | 18 |
| Catherine, Casey, and Patrick Lowry; her step grandchildren, | 19 |
| Adam and Jake Mohundro; Johanna, Michael, Kimberly, Patrick, | 20 |
| and Samantha Carlin; her two great-grandchildren, Anne McCabe | 21 |
| and Jonas Gregory; her step great-grandchild, MaKenna Carlin; | 22 |
| and numerous cousins and many dear friends; therefore, be it
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 2 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Margaret D. Horrigan; | 3 |
| and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 5 |
| presented to the family of Margaret D. Horrigan as a symbol of | 6 |
| our sincere sympathy.
