| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Charles Curry, who passed away on June | 4 | | 10, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry was born in Starkville, Mississippi | 6 | | to Annie Laura (Pearson) and George Curry Sr. on July 30, 1938; | 7 | | as a young man, he spent time with his father, learning about | 8 | | the family businesses, including a grocery store, a gas | 9 | | station, and a farm; he would often sneak on to the back of the | 10 | | pick up truck to accompany his father; each day he would take | 11 | | his father an afternoon snack of homemade cake and a cup of | 12 | | coffee; as a child, he was a member of the Zion Franklin United | 13 | | Methodist Church in Starkville, where his parents were active | 14 | | members; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry began selling milk, although he | 16 | | never actually milked the cows, and received his first check | 17 | | for his service at the age of 12, igniting his entrepreneurial | 18 | | spirit; he also learned to drive at an early age, even before | 19 | | he was tall enough to see over the steering wheel; he drove the | 20 | | school bus to transport his classmates to school, sparking his | 21 | | love for driving and appreciation of cars; he loved old cars | 22 | | and believed they should always be clean; he could often be | 23 | | found washing his truck or one of his cars outside of C. P. |

| 1 | | Grinding; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, After graduating high school, Charles Curry | 3 | | traveled to Chicago, working briefly as a cook and as a | 4 | | machinist in the grinding business; he took to the grinding | 5 | | business and eventually purchased his own machine shop with his | 6 | | brother; they became successful small business owners for over | 7 | | 40 years; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry married Henry Alice in 1957 and they | 9 | | had three children; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry joined Grant Memorial AME Church and | 11 | | was active with the men's group; he could be found in the | 12 | | church kitchen cooking his specialty of salmon croquettes, | 13 | | singing with the men's choir, or even helping with the church | 14 | | finances; he
devoted his entire life to his work and his | 15 | | family; his home was the gathering place for family and | 16 | | friends; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry was preceded in death by his | 18 | | parents; his sister, Louise; and his daughters, Felecia and | 19 | | Audrey; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Charles Curry is survived by his wife, Henry | 21 | | Alice; his daughters, Angela (Alfonzo) and Beverly; his |

| 1 | | grandchildren, Jareem, Jamel, Charlene, Christa, Christopher, | 2 | | and Jai; his great-grandchildren, Brian, David, D'andre, | 3 | | Lamore', and Jeremiah; his siblings, Catherine (Cleveland), | 4 | | Margaret, Zelda, George Jr., Sammie, and Isaac (Bobbie); and | 5 | | numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be | 6 | | it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Charles Curry, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Charles Curry as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
