| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Joseph M. Berardi of Pekin, who passed | 4 | | away on March 25, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was born on January 10, 1923, in | 6 | | Pekin, to Peter and Lucia (Strada) Berardi; he married | 7 | | Henrietta "Penny" Woost on November 3, 1945, in Springfield; he | 8 | | later married Shirley (Eschmeyer) Ziebold on June 21, 2008, in | 9 | | Pekin; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi served in the U.S. Army during | 11 | | World War II; he worked as a police officer in Pekin for 20 | 12 | | years before retiring; he was police chief in Minier and later | 13 | | worked for the State of Illinois, retiring in 1974; he was | 14 | | elected president of the Minier Village Board in 1984 and he | 15 | | served on the Tazwell County Board for 18 years; he and his | 16 | | wife owned and operated Peek-In-Ceramics; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was a life member and served as | 18 | | past commander of the Roy L. King VFW Post 1232 in Pekin, was a | 19 | | life and 56-year member of Empire Masonic Lodge 126, AF&AM, a | 20 | | member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Peoria, and | 21 | | a 40-year member of Mohammed Temple, Shrine; he was a member of | 22 | | St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin and an avid St. Louis |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents; his first wife, Henrietta; his second wife, Shirley; | 4 | | and his 2 brothers and 2 sisters; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Berardi is survived by his daughter, Karen | 6 | | (John) Fisher; his sons, Richard (Gloria Gay) Berardi and Leo | 7 | | (Karen) Berardi; his sister, Adele Trettenero; his 7 | 8 | | grandchildren; his 8 great-grandchildren; and one | 9 | | great-great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Joseph Berardi, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
