1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives were
3 saddened to learn of the death of Michael L. Caringella, Sr.
4 on Tuesday, March 25, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Caringella was born on March 3, 1924 to
6 Achille and Angela Caringella; he was raised in an Italian
7 neighborhood and began working in his parents' butcher shop
8 on Taylor Street when he was a young boy; he attended Crane
9 High School in Chicago; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Caringella valiantly served his country in
11 World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a member of the Coast Guard
12 in Connecticut; and
13 WHEREAS, In 1956, Mr Caringella joined with his friend
14 Armand Christopher to open Armand's Restaurant & Lounge, a
15 pizza shop located at 7400 W. Grand Avenue in Elmwood Park;
16 he became the sole owner after Mr. Christopher moved to
17 Arizona; throughout the years, he expanded the restaurant
18 from the original 50 seats to 200 and opened two more
19 restaurants, one in Elmhurst and the other in St. Charles;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, The restaurant was truly a family business for
22 Mr. Caringella; his mother was the head cook at Armand's for
23 almost 40 years; his two sons and daughter work at the
24 restaurant, and each of his ten grandchildren have worked
25 there; he was the owner of Armand's for 47 years; and
26 WHEREAS, Mr. Caringella was a person dedicated to his
27 family and business, generous with his time, money, and
28 knowledge, and extremely helpful to everyone; his favorite
29 pastimes included reading, watching old films, and working;
30 and
31 WHEREAS, The passing of Michael L. Caringella, Sr. has

1 been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Ann; his
2 daughter, Angela Cecola; his sons, Gil and Michael, Jr.; his
3 sisters, Frances LaPorte, Mary Fiore, Rosalie DeMarte, and
4 Elisabeth Casale; his brother Ralph; and his ten
5 grandchildren; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we mourn the passing of Michael L. Caringella, Sr. and extend
9 to his family and friends our sincerest condolences; and be
10 it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Michael L. Caringella, Sr. as an
13 expression of our deepest sympathy.
