| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John Anthony Shubitz of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on September 7, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Shubitz was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July | 6 | | 29, 1938 to Slovenian immigrant parents, Thomas and Mary Subic, | 7 | | whose name became Shubitz at Ellis Island; he received degrees | 8 | | in philosophy and theology from St. Paul Seminary; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Shubitz worked at the Diocese of Duluth and | 10 | | taught at Duluth Cathedral High School; upon completing his | 11 | | master's degree in education from the University of | 12 | | Wisconsin-Superior, he spent almost 30 years as a high school | 13 | | guidance counselor at Waukegan East High School, and later at | 14 | | Waukegan High School; he also oversaw Waukegan's night school | 15 | | program for many years; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, John Shubitz enjoyed flower and vegetable | 17 | | gardening, reading, swimming, cross-country skiing, and taking | 18 | | road trips to visit relatives and new places; he also enjoyed | 19 | | watching storms pass through the sky and watching all of his | 20 | | favorite Chicago sports teams on television with family and | 21 | | friends; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Shubitz was preceded in death by his | 2 | | brothers, Paul (Ann), Tom (Elaine), and Jim (Lynn) and his | 3 | | sisters, Mary (John) Glamuzina and Emma (Cameron) Himebaugh; | 4 | | and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Shubitz is survived by his wife, Rita | 6 | | (Latini) Shubitz; his sons, Mark (Jenny Vasquez) and Steven; | 7 | | his grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew; his sisters, Genevieve | 8 | | Shubitz and Dorothy Janchar; and numerous nephews and nieces; | 9 | | therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | John Anthony Shubitz and extend our sincere condolences to his | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
