| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Gerald W. "Jerry" Schmidt of | 4 | | Godfrey, who passed away on December 28, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was born on October 2, 1924, in | 6 | | Alton to Leo and Florence (Lengacher) Schmidt; he graduated | 7 | | from Marquette High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy | 8 | | during World War II on the USS New Jersey from 1942 to 1945; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt married Bonnidel "Bonnie" Brooks | 11 | | on September 10, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton; | 12 | | he graduated from Quincy College in 1950; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was a member of St. Ambrose | 14 | | Catholic Church, the Alton Eagles FOE No. 254, the Godfrey | 15 | | Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post | 16 | | 1308; he enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling, fishing, and | 17 | | was an avid fan of his children and grandchildren's activities | 18 | | and sports games; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Gerald Schmidt was preceded in death by his | 20 | | daughter-in-law, Mary Pat Walters Schmidt; his grandson, Drew | 21 | | Schmidt; his brothers, Ralph and Marvin Schmidt; his |
