| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas J. McGrath, M.D. of Joliet, who | 4 | | passed away on July 17, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Thomas McGrath was born on June 2, 1932 in | 6 | | Hammond, Indiana; his parents were Joseph and Irene McGrath; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Thomas McGrath attended Rehn, St. Patrick's, and | 9 | | Saint Raymond's School before graduating from Joliet Township | 10 | | High School in 1949; he then graduated from Miami University in | 11 | | 1952, and from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in | 12 | | Chicago; he later completed his internship and residency at | 13 | | Cook County Hospital, specializing in obstetrics and | 14 | | gynecology; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Thomas McGrath served as a flight surgeon at the | 16 | | United States Air Force Academy; in 1960, he returned to Joliet | 17 | | to specialize in women's health; he was a founding partner in | 18 | | the Joliet Medical Group; he served as Medical Director and | 19 | | Chief of Staff at Saint Joseph Hospital; he volunteered at the | 20 | | Will/Grundy County Medical Clinic; he also enjoyed serving | 21 | | others in private practice for many years until his retirement | 22 | | in 1996; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement years, Thomas McGrath served on | 2 | | the Board of Directors at Saint Joseph Hospital and University | 3 | | of Saint Francis and served as Medical Director for Captive | 4 | | Insurance; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his passion for medicine, Thomas | 6 | | McGrath enjoyed sailing, flying, playing the piano, golfing, | 7 | | fishing, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Thomas McGrath was preceded in death by his | 10 | | parents and his brothers-in-law, Martin Whalen and Henry Bourg; | 11 | | and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Thomas McGrath is survived by his loving wife of | 13 | | 62 years, Joan; his children, Michael (Robin), Thomas, Kathleen | 14 | | (Thomas) Boucher, Jane (Timothy) Schmig, Laura, Patrick | 15 | | (Stacey), and Elizabeth (Michael) Ryan; his grandchildren, | 16 | | Christina (Justin) Spring, Thomas and Michael McGrath, Anne, | 17 | | Kathleen, and Claire Schmig, Margaret, John, and Patrick | 18 | | McGrath, and Mary, Hannah, and Michael Ryan; his | 19 | | great-grandchild, Kathryn Spring; his sisters, Suzanne Whalen | 20 | | and Priscilla (Robert) Borgstrom; his sister-in-law and | 21 | | brother-in-law, Virginia Bourg and John (Peggi) Lynch; and many | 22 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
