| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Clinton Craig Atkins of Naples, Florida, | 4 | | formerly of Champaign, who passed away on April 24, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins was born on June 12, 1945, in | 6 | | Sewickley, Pennsylvania; he was the son of Clinton Paul and | 7 | | Maxine Long Atkins; he married Susan A. Stitt on November 2, | 8 | | 1963; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins received his high school diploma | 10 | | from Champaign Central High School in 1963; he subsequently | 11 | | attended the University of Illinois; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins began working at The News-Gazette | 13 | | in Champaign in 1964 in the circulation department; he enjoyed | 14 | | working with the youth of the community and the departments to | 15 | | get the paper out on time; after retiring at the age of 30, he | 16 | | had acquired several properties in Champaign and the | 17 | | surrounding communities; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins returned to work in 1981, when he | 19 | | acquired the Westgate Apartments and the chain of liquor stores | 20 | | in the Twin Cities; he subsequently acquired Tower Hobbies, | 21 | | Herr's, Great Plains, numerous warehouses, and other real |

| 1 | | estate; he was also the co-founder of the Plastic Container | 2 | | Corporation; in the 1990s, he developed North Prospect Avenue, | 3 | | including Baytowne Apartments, the Square, and the Shoppes; ten | 4 | | years later, he developed the Stone Creek Golf Course, | 5 | | Subdivision, Commons, and Shoppes in southeast Urbana; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins' desire was to make | 7 | | Champaign-Urbana the best it could be through creating jobs, | 8 | | providing housing, philanthropy through various charities, and | 9 | | promoting the arts, education, and athletics at the University | 10 | | of Illinois; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins was preceded in death by his | 12 | | parents, Clinton Paul and Maxine L. Atkins; his grandson, Zane; | 13 | | and his nephew, Clinton Paul; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Clinton Atkins is survived by his loving wife, | 15 | | Susie; his children, Suzette (Michael) Hogan, C. Todd (Julia) | 16 | | Atkins, and Spencer (Tracy) Atkins; his grandchildren, Amber | 17 | | (Travis) Geralds, Kathryne, Emily, Nolan, Alexis, Spencer Von, | 18 | | Olivia, Victoria, Isabella, and George; his brother, Vincent | 19 | | (Inge) Atkins; his sister, Mary (Ivan) Hassinger; his | 20 | | sister-in-law, Donna Harris; and his many loving nieces and | 21 | | nephews and their families; therefore, be it
