| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Dr. Roy W. Kenney, Jr.,
of Belleville, passed away | 3 |
| February 21, 2005; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney was born May 3, 1922, in East St. | 5 |
| Louis, to the union of Roy and Katherine Kenney (nee Fletcher); | 6 |
| he was the second of six children; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, He attended Dunbar Elementary School and | 8 |
| graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in June 1940; he | 9 |
| received his pre-medical training at Southern Illinois | 10 |
| University at Carbondale, the University of Illinois at | 11 |
| Urbana-Champaign, the University of Vermont at Burlington, and | 12 |
| the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he received his medical | 13 |
| education from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee | 14 |
| and graduated in June of 1947; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He received post-graduate training in medicine by | 16 |
| way of an internship at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. | 17 |
| Louis, Missouri from 1947 to 1948; he completed his surgical | 18 |
| residency in general surgery at Veterans Administration | 19 |
| Hospital and John Andrews Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, | 20 |
| Veterans Administration Hospital and St. Elizabeth's Hospital | 21 |
| in Dayton, Ohio, and Children's Hospital and Ohio State | 22 |
| University in Columbus, Ohio; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney practiced medicine and surgery for a | 24 |
| total of 37 1/2 years in East St. Louis; he was on the medical | 25 |
| staff of St. Mary's, Christian Welfare & Community, and | 26 |
| Centreville Hospitals; he was past-president of the medical | 27 |
| staff at Christian Welfare Hospital; and
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, He held the office of treasurer of the St. Clair | 29 |
| County Medical Society for two years; he was a member of the | 30 |
| Illinois State Medical Society, the American Medical |

| Association, the National Medical Association, and the | 2 |
| Southern Illinois Medical Association; he was a member of Alpha | 3 |
| Phi Alpha Fraternity, Chi Delta Mu Medical Fraternity, NAACP, | 4 |
| and the steward board at Pilgrim Temple C.M.E. Church; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Kenney married Dorothy Lucille Anderson on | 6 |
| June 14, 1947; they had three children, Cheryl, Deborah, and | 7 |
| Roy Wesley, III; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, his son, and | 9 |
| two siblings; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Kenney is felt by all who knew | 11 |
| and loved him, especially his daughters, Cheryl McKinney and | 12 |
| Deborah Kenney; his granddaughter, Perchell McKinney; his | 13 |
| sisters, Dorothy Austin and Katherine Brown; his brother, | 14 |
| Howard (Jane) Kenney; his nieces and nephews; his | 15 |
| sisters-in-law, Retha Fant, Ora Kenney, Rebia Kenney and | 16 |
| Alberta Anderson; his other relatives; and his loving church | 17 |
| family and friends; therefore, be it
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 19 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 |
| Dr. Roy Kenney, Jr., and extend our sincerest condolences to | 21 |
| his family, friends, and community; and be it further
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 23 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 24 |
| sympathy.
