| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Michael O'Connell of Tinley Park; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell was a graduate of the FBI | 5 | | National Academy and Northwestern University School of Police | 6 | | Staff and Command; he also held a master's degree in criminal | 7 | | justice from Lewis University; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell had a long and distinguished | 9 | | career in law enforcement; he began his career in 1972 as a | 10 | | patrol officer with the Riverdale Police Department, and he | 11 | | served as police chief of the Riverdale Police Department for | 12 | | six years; in 1995, he was appointed to serve as police chief | 13 | | of the Village of Tinley Park, where he served until his | 14 | | passing; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell taught criminal justice courses | 16 | | at South Suburban College for several years; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell was active on numerous Illinois | 18 | | Association of Chiefs of Police committees, including those | 19 | | that focus on domestic terrorism and homeland security; he also | 20 | | served on the Executive Board of the South Suburban Association | 21 | | of Chiefs of Police; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell was widely respected and | 2 | | influential throughout the Illinois law enforcement community; | 3 | | he was the recipient of the 2005 "Police Chief of the Year" | 4 | | award from the Illinois State Crime Commission for his work; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Connell is survived by his wife, Barb; | 7 | | his daughter, Colleen; his son, Michael, and his | 8 | | daughter-in-law, Liz; his daughter, Michelle (Anichini), and | 9 | | his son-in-law, Paul; and his four grandchildren; therefore, be | 10 | | it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 13 | | his family and friends, the passing of Michael O'Connell; and | 14 | | be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Michael O'Connell as an expression | 17 | | of our sympathy.
