| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Charles F. "Chuck" Flamini of | 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on April 21, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Flamini was born in Springfield to Oswald | 6 | | Flamini and Fern Sillman on June 12, 1946; he graduated from | 7 | | Lanphier High School and Eastern Illinois University; he | 8 | | returned to Springfield in 1968 and married Mary Macbeth in | 9 | | Las Vegas, Nevada in 1982; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Flamini began his career teaching at | 11 | | Lanphier High School; a 2005 State Journal-Register article | 12 | | recalled his sometimes unorthodox style of teaching, including | 13 | | the time he taught history backward, starting with the current | 14 | | year and working his way back in time; he served as president | 15 | | of the Springfield Education Association, representing the | 16 | | district's teachers and other employees; he was also an | 17 | | assistant basketball coach at Southeast High School, and he | 18 | | served as athletic director and principal at Lanphier; he was | 19 | | principal at Springfield High School when he retired in 2002, | 20 | | but he kept teaching, including a class titled Dealing with | 21 | | Diversity at the University of Illinois at Springfield, which | 22 | | dealt with racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual diversity; in | 23 | | 2005, he returned to the north end as director of Ursuline |

| 1 | | Academy and as curriculum coordinator for Springfield College | 2 | | in Illinois/Benedictine University, where he helped launch a | 3 | | new elementary education bachelor's degree program; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Flamini served as a school board member for | 5 | | District 186 until January 5, 2018; he was first elected in | 6 | | 2013 representing Subdistrict 7 and served as president; he | 7 | | took great pride in serving District 186 students, parents, | 8 | | and staff, and he continued to support the district in | 9 | | retirement; he encouraged and supported new school | 10 | | superintendents in their roles; he will be remembered as a | 11 | | respected teacher, union activist, school administrator, and | 12 | | school board member who touched many lives; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Chuck Flamini is survived by his wife, Mary; his | 14 | | daughters, Tonya (Brandon) Douglas and Beth Ray; his brother, | 15 | | Gary (Lisa) Flamini; his grandchildren, Annabella Dorrity, Ava | 16 | | and Aubree Douglas, Zachary (Michelle), and Phillip Ray; his | 17 | | great-grandchildren, Eliana and Carmela; and several nieces | 18 | | and nephews; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Charles F. "Chuck" Flamini and extend our sincere condolences | 22 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 23 | | it further
