| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Keiya "Laurie Winkler" Dancer of Peoria, | 4 | | who passed away on April 17, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Keiya Dancer was born on April 8, 1974, to Donald | 6 | | Winkler and Jo Anne (Simon) Winkler; she graduated from St. | 7 | | Bernard's Grade School and Woodruff High School in Peoria; she | 8 | | earned her bachelor's degree in 1997 from Southern Illinois | 9 | | University in Carbondale, majoring in forest resource | 10 | | management and minoring in Spanish and plant and soil science; | 11 | | she earned a master's degree in spiritual psychology in 2008 | 12 | | from the University of Santa Monica in Santa Monica, | 13 | | California; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Keiya Dancer studied abroad in Costa Rica and | 15 | | Ecuador and after graduation she worked in urban permaculture | 16 | | and woodland and prairie habitat restoration in Illinois and | 17 | | Missouri; in 1997 and 1998 she lived in Denver, Colorado, to | 18 | | care for her father and while there worked as a tutor and | 19 | | mentor for at-risk youth with the I Have a Dream Foundation of | 20 | | AmeriCorps; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, From 2001 to 2004, Keiya Dancer owned Urban | 22 | | Ecological Designs, a part-time business focusing on urban |

| 1 | | permaculture and community gardens; she also worked for Friends | 2 | | of Sangamon Valley doing ecological restorations; from 2005 to | 3 | | 2009, she was a field guide and counselor for a wilderness | 4 | | substance abuse program in Utah; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Keiya Dancer was known for her wisdom, courage, | 6 | | tenacity, playfulness, and loving heart; she had a beautiful | 7 | | smile and a contagious laugh and her wonderful spirit will live | 8 | | on in all those she touched and in the hearts of her family and | 9 | | many friends; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Keiya Dancer was preceded in death by her father; | 11 | | her maternal uncle, Arnie Simon; her maternal grandfather, Earl | 12 | | Simon; and paternal grandparents, George and Esther | 13 | | (Dahlhauser) Winkler; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Keiya Dancer is survived by her mother, Jo Anne; | 15 | | her brother, Tim Winkler; her sisters, Shelley Winkler and | 16 | | Lindsay Winkler; her brother-in-law, Jon Domanus; and her dog, | 17 | | Luci; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Keiya Dancer, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | 21 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
