| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Joseph H. Haley, the founder and executive | 3 |
| director of Jackie Robinson West Little League in Chicago, | 4 |
| passed away on June 13, 2005 at the age of 71; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Haley, a native of Enoch, Louisiana, earned an | 6 |
| Associate of Arts degree from Compton College of California, a | 7 |
| Bachelor of Arts degree from Grambling State University, and a | 8 |
| Master of Arts degree from DePaul University; he served as | 9 |
| Assistant Principal at Marcus Garvey Elementary School; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, From a league with just five teams, Jackie | 11 |
| Robinson West Little League has grown to more than 1,000 | 12 |
| players on 36 teams; the league has instilled the values of | 13 |
| good citizenship, perseverance, team effort, sportsmanship, | 14 |
| and self-discipline in generations of young people; Mr. Haley | 15 |
| wanted the children in his league to get a good education and | 16 |
| taught them that school was more important than baseball; one | 17 |
| of his proudest accomplishments was the completion of Jackie | 18 |
| Robinson Stadium at 107th and Morgan; and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, For his dedication and commitment to Jackie | 20 |
| Robinson
West Little League and his service to the community, | 21 |
| Joseph
Haley received many awards, including the Fred Hampton

| Image Award, YMCA Wall of Fame Award, Marcus Garvey Award,
Mt. | 23 |
| Vernon-Washington Heights Community Organization Award,
| 24 |
| Continental Societies, Inc. Award, JRW Man of the Year

Spiritual Truth | 26 |

| WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph Haley is deeply felt by all | 10 |
| who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Ann, who serves as | 11 |
| the president of the Jackie Robinson West Little League Women's | 12 |
| Auxiliary, two sons, Glenn and Bill, who serves as the chairman | 13 |
| of the board for the league, and four grandchildren; another | 14 |
| son, Richard, preceded him in death; therefore, be it
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 16 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we join his family and | 17 |
| friends in mourning the loss of Joseph H. Haley, and we | 18 |
| recognize his dedication and countless contributions to the | 19 |
| youth of his community; and be it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| delivered to his family with our heartfelt condolences.
