| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Raymond | 4 | | Leroy Buckner, who passed away on April 23, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner was born in Chicago to Rev. | 6 | | Elijah T. Sr. and Essie Mae (Mitchell) Buckner on July 29, | 7 | | 1947; he attended Parker High School in Chicago's Englewood | 8 | | neighborhood, where he was a stand out wrestler; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner found interest and joy in music, | 10 | | both as an instrumentalist and a vocalist, playing the piano, | 11 | | guitar, and alto saxophone; he was influenced by fellow | 12 | | Chicago musicians Jerry Butler, Sam Cooke, and Curtis | 13 | | Mayfield, with whom he would later collaborate; he made his | 14 | | recording debut with his brothers for the Sanla label in 1968 | 15 | | with their first song, Love You From The Bottom of My Heart; | 16 | | the group later changed their name to Buck and the 16th | 17 | | Movement and later signed with Hugh Heffner's Playboy Records; | 18 | | he continued to play music professionally for the remainder of | 19 | | his life; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner was also an accomplished visual | 21 | | artist, mastering oil and acrylic painting; he was mentored by | 22 | | the famous artist and graphic designer Thomas Miller; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner began a career in law enforcement | 2 | | in 1980 and worked as a Deputy Cook County Sheriff until his | 3 | | retirement in 2004, achieving the rank of sergeant; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner married Yvonne Wynn on October | 5 | | 23, 1983; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner is survived by his wife, Yvonne | 7 | | Wynn-Buckner; his daughters, Artiya (David), Natasha (Jorge), | 8 | | Lisa (Kenneth), and Kamille; his son, Kambium; and his | 9 | | grandsons, Donnovan, Dillon, Durrell, and Kenneth Jr.; | 10 | | therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 12 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 13 | | we mourn the passing of Raymond Leroy Buckner and extend our | 14 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 15 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Raymond Buckner as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
