| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Benjamin Mills | 4 | | Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on its | 5 | | 100th Anniversary; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is a | 7 | | national patriotic organization whose members are direct | 8 | | descendants of those patriots who fought in the American | 9 | | Revolution, who with unfailing loyalty served sailors, | 10 | | soldiers, and civil officers, or rendered material aid to the | 11 | | cause of American independence during the Revolutionary War; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is the | 14 | | only women's organization reporting
to the United States | 15 | | Congress each year; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The Benjamin Mills Chapter of the Daughters of the | 17 | | American Revolution was
organized on June 5, 1913, by Ms. | 18 | | Charles E. Davidson, who was a Bond City Resident; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, The majority of the 27 charter members were | 20 | | descendants of Benjamin Mills, who
served in the Revolutionary | 21 | | War as a private and then 2nd lieutenant, in the Maryland |

| 1 | | troops, thus it
was decided to use his name for the chapter's | 2 | | designation; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, The first Benjamin Mills Chapter officers were | 4 | | Mrs. Charles E. Davidson, Regent; Mrs. George F. Casey, | 5 | | Vice-Regent; Dr. Marie Louise Ravold, Recording Secretary; | 6 | | Mrs. J. Ralph Seamon, Corresponding Secretary; Mrs. Frank E. | 7 | | Watson, Registrar; Miss Mabel Victoria Wait, Treasurer; Mrs. | 8 | | C.J. Lindley, Historian; and Mrs. E. Parson, Chaplain; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1916, the chapter purchased a 1/4 acre tract of | 10 | | land from Mr. Neumann about 8
miles southwest of Greenville | 11 | | where the DAR Daughters placed a monument at the approximate
| 12 | | site of Hills' Fort, built in 1811; in 1928, the chapter | 13 | | unveiled the DAR Madonna of the Trail
monument in Vandalia to | 14 | | commemorate the pioneer mothers of the covered wagon days; in
| 15 | | 1929, a plaque listing revolutionary soldiers buried in Bond | 16 | | County was placed at the north
entrance of the court house; in | 17 | | 1935, a marker was placed on south 5th Street at the site where
| 18 | | Stephen A. Douglas and Abraham Lincoln spoke in 1858; in 1951, | 19 | | a monument was placed at
the site of Perrysville, the first | 20 | | county seat of Bond County; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, At this anniversary date, outgoing Benjamin Mills | 22 | | Chapter Officers are: Cynthia
McAlpin Hunter, Regent; Veronica | 23 | | Hunter Schraer, Vice-Regent; Virginia Whitlock Wise,
Chaplain; |

| 1 | | Jeanette Dothager, Secretary; Jessie Thomas Maas, Treasurer; | 2 | | Karen Dewey Bauer-Reelitz, Registrar and Historian; newly | 3 | | elected Benjamin Mills Chapter Officers for the Centennial
| 4 | | 2013-2015 term are: Jeanette Dothager, Regent; Lisa Marie | 5 | | Williams Stephens, Vice-Regent;
Virginia Whitlock Wise, | 6 | | Chaplain; Diana Lynn Williams Sanders, Secretary; Jessie | 7 | | Thomas
Maas, Treasurer; and Karen Dewey Bauer-Reelitz, | 8 | | Registrar and Historian; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Benjamin Mills Chapter sponsors Good | 10 | | Citizenship Awards at the high schools
in Bond and Fayette | 11 | | counties, American History Essay contests, and school and | 12 | | community
flag/veteran programs; it promotes support for | 13 | | veterans, celebrations of patriotic holidays, and
presents the | 14 | | flag of the United States of America to civic organizations; | 15 | | they sponsor Hills' Fort
Society, Children of the American | 16 | | Revolution, Daughters of the American
Revolution Schools, and | 17 | | many national and special committees; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, At all chapter meetings, the Benjamin Mills | 19 | | Chapter begins each meeting ritual
with a prayer; they recite | 20 | | The Pledge of Allegiance, The American's Creed, and sing The
| 21 | | Star Spangled Banner; as a Daughter of the American Revolution, | 22 | | each daughter makes an oath
and accepts the duty to: love our | 23 | | country, support The Constitution of The United States of
| 24 | | America, obey its' laws, and to respect its' flag and to defend |

| 1 | | it against all enemies; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Benjamin Mills Chapter of the Daughters of the | 3 | | American Revolution will
mark its 100th year anniversary on | 4 | | June 5, 2013, through a celebration luncheon and grave
marking, | 5 | | in Bond County; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we congratulate the Benjamin
Mills Chapter of the Daughters of | 9 | | the American Revolution on celebrating its 100th Anniversary | 10 | | and wish the organization and its members
continued success; | 11 | | and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the Benjamin Mills Chapter
of the Daughters of the | 14 | | American Revolution as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
