| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Dean C. Howard of Peoria, who passed away | 4 | | on August 1, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard was born on November 17, 1918, in | 6 | | Cleveland, Ohio; his parents were Thomas and Florence Dean | 7 | | Howard; he married Patricia Smith on May 26, 1945, in Sandusky, | 8 | | Ohio; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard served as a lieutenant with the United | 10 | | States Navy's Third Fleet in the Pacific theatre during World | 11 | | War II; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard served as a professor at Bradley | 13 | | University in the music department for 36 years until his | 14 | | retirement in 1984; he was a former member of the Peoria | 15 | | Symphony, the Peoria Municipal Band, and the Bradley Community | 16 | | Chorus and Orchestra; during this time, he also served at the | 17 | | choir director of the 1st United Methodist Church in East | 18 | | Peoria and the Forrest Hill United Methodist Church in Peoria; | 19 | | and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, While teaching at Bradley University, Dean Howard | 21 | | received the Putnam Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1962, |

| 1 | | the Outstanding Educator's Award in 1973, and the Who's Who in | 2 | | Music in 1974; many of his compositions have been published | 3 | | and, in 1983, he was commissioned to compose "Celebration" for | 4 | | the Peoria Civic Center opening; he also enjoyed playing the | 5 | | piano; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard was self-taught in watercolor and | 7 | | received numerous awards from 1965 to 1990; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard was preceded in death by his wife and | 9 | | his sister, Marion; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dean Howard is survived by his sons, Tim (Sandi) | 11 | | Howard, Tom (Debbie) Howard, and Ted Howard, and his grandsons, | 12 | | Christopher and Patrick Howard; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Dean C. Howard; and be | 16 | | it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Dean Howard as an expression of our | 19 | | sympathy.
