| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert D. | 4 | | Bradley, who passed away on May 5, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley was born August 4, 1924, in | 6 | | Effingham; his parents were Esther and Arnold Bradley; he | 7 | | married Barbara Jean Rodd on August 28, 1949, at the Aldersgate | 8 | | Church on South Market in Marion; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Robert Bradley | 10 | | joined the United States Navy and served on the tanker ship USS | 11 | | Platt in the South Pacific until the end of World War II; he | 12 | | was active as an ensign in the Naval Reserve until 1959; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After the end of the war, Robert Bradley returned | 14 | | to Vandalia and enrolled at Southern Illinois University; he | 15 | | graduated in 1949 with a degree in business administration; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley was employed in real estate and | 17 | | insurance, along with his father-in-law and brother-in-law; in | 18 | | 1972, he founded Bob Bradley Insurance (now The Insurance | 19 | | House), now owned by his son, Clay; he continued to work in | 20 | | business until 2 weeks before his passing, for a total of 64 | 21 | | years; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley spent many hours working with the | 2 | | Boy Scouts, the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and the senior | 3 | | citizens of First United Methodist Church, where he was an | 4 | | active member; he drove the church van every Sunday morning for | 5 | | many years; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley was an active member of his | 7 | | community; he was instrumental in the creation of the Lion Club | 8 | | Honors Day Award at Marion High School; he organized and | 9 | | initiated the first Graduation Spree at MHS; he organized the | 10 | | first golf tournament, "The Closed Open", as a fund-raising | 11 | | event for Hearts Helping Hearts, in which only former open | 12 | | heart patients participated; he started the Chamber of Commerce | 13 | | Citizen of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award to | 14 | | honor citizens who had made a difference in their community; he | 15 | | was designated as the Citizen of the Year in 1981 and was | 16 | | honored at the Mayor's Breakfast in 1997, and was awarded the | 17 | | Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley enjoyed tending his flowers and | 19 | | yard, his white-flocked Christmas tree in his front window, his | 20 | | "Aunt Maude" sayings projected on his garage door, deep frying | 21 | | for all who visited his Lake of Egypt lake home, water skiing, | 22 | | and running at night with his son, Doug; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley was preceded in death by his | 2 | | brother-in-law, Dee L. Rodd and his wife Ruth, and his | 3 | | brother-in-law, Don Minner; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Robert Bradley is survived by his wife of 64 | 5 | | years, Barbara; his sons, Douglas R. Bradley and his wife, | 6 | | Lareva, and Clay A. Bradley and his wife, Andrea; his | 7 | | grandsons, Andrew W. Bradley and Robert J. Bradley; his | 8 | | granddaughter, Natalie Bradley Winn and her husband, Ryan; his | 9 | | half-brothers, Charles Burnett and his wife, Charlotte, and | 10 | | Danny Burnett; his brother-in-law, Rodger Rodd and his wife, | 11 | | Beth; his sisters-in-law, Geri Robbins and her husband, Chet, | 12 | | and Sidney Minner; his nieces, Patricia Dockery (Mike), Robin | 13 | | Pankey (Robert), Kim Rodd Holmes (Gary), and Kate Minner; his | 14 | | nephews, Richard Robbins (Bridget), Jim Rodd (Tamra), Bill Rodd | 15 | | (Carla), Chris Minner (Carol), Glen Burnett, and David Burnett; | 16 | | therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 18 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 19 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 20 | | Robert D. Bradley; and be it further
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 22 | | presented to the family of Robert Bradley as an expression of | 23 | | our sympathy.
