| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of former Spring Grove village president | 4 | | John Love Toler of Red Lodge, Montana, who passed away on May | 5 | | 17, 2013; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Toler was born to Robert and Mary Gould Toler | 7 | | on December 7, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri and was raised | 8 | | there and in Port Washington, New York; he attended the College | 9 | | of William & Mary and Babson College before enlisting in the | 10 | | U.S. Army; he attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, | 11 | | Oklahoma, and served a tour of duty in Vietnam as a forward | 12 | | observer with the 2/77 Field Artillery Regiment attached to the | 13 | | First Air Cavalry Division; he earned 3 Purple Hearts, a Bronze | 14 | | Star, and a Silver Star; upon returning from Vietnam, he | 15 | | settled in St. Charles, Missouri; he married Judy Kraak on | 16 | | February 7, 1970; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John Toler worked for Hallmark Cards until 1976, | 18 | | when he and his brother, James, built a manufacturer | 19 | | representatives business, Toler Marketing Group; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Toler was active in his community and served | 21 | | on the village board of Spring Grove from 1981 to 1983 and as | 22 | | village president from 1983 to 1993; he was also involved in |

| 1 | | community health care services and served on the board of | 2 | | trustees of Northern Illinois Medical Center (now Centegra | 3 | | Health System) from 1989 to 1995 and as chairman of the board | 4 | | from 1993 to 1995; he was instrumental in fundraising for | 5 | | Teamwork Not Taxes, a group that financed the athletic field at | 6 | | Richmond-Burton Community High School, and he helped establish | 7 | | the Helmet Club; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John Toler and Judy moved to Red Lodge, Montana, | 9 | | in 2001 and opened the 1902 Emporium and the Red Lodge Flower | 10 | | Shop; while in Montana, he worked as a sales consultant for | 11 | | several businesses and as club steward at the Beartooth Elks | 12 | | Lodge; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, After moving to Red Lodge, John Toler served on | 14 | | the Red Lodge city planning board and the Beartooth Memorial | 15 | | Hospital Board, and, while serving as president of the hospital | 16 | | board, he was actively involved in the construction of a new | 17 | | community hospital; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, John Toler was preceded in death by his parents | 19 | | and his brother, James G. Toler; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Toler is survived by his wife, Judy; his | 21 | | children, John Love Toler II (Brittany), Jeffrey Alan Toler | 22 | | (Sharon), and Leslie Kraak Johnson (Andrew); his |

| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 6 | | John Toler, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 7 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of John Toler as an expression of our | 10 | | deepest sympathy.
