Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that for any one person in any one accident, the required amount of liability insurance shall be $25,000 for policies issued or renewed before July 1, 2012 and $1,000,000 for any policy issued or renewed on and after July 1, 2012. Provides that the required amount of insurance for 2 or more persons in any one accident shall be: (i) $100,000 for personal injury liability insurance policies issued or renewed before July 1, 2012; (ii) $1,000,000 for policies issued or renewed on and after July 1, 2012 and before July 1, 2013; (iii) $2,000,000 for policies issued or renewed on and after July 1, 2013 and before July 1, 2014; and (iv) $3,000,000 for policies issued or renewed on and after July 1, 2014. Provides that provisions of Public Act 97-224 making certain personal injury liability insurance requirements applicable to a first division vehicle including a taxi which is used for a purpose that requires a school bus driver permit are inoperative before July 1, 2012 and are operative on and after July 1, 2012. Effective immediately. |

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing | 5 | | Section 12-707.01 as follows:
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/12-707.01) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-707.01)
| 7 | | Sec. 12-707.01. Liability insurance. No school bus, first | 8 | | division vehicle including a taxi which is used for a purpose | 9 | | that requires a school bus driver permit, commuter van or
motor | 10 | | vehicle owned by or used for hire by and in connection with the
| 11 | | operation of private or public schools, day camps, summer camps | 12 | | or
nursery schools, and no commuter van or passenger car used | 13 | | for a for-profit
ridesharing arrangement, shall be operated for | 14 | | such purposes unless the owner
thereof shall carry a minimum of | 15 | | personal injury liability insurance in
the amount of $25,000 | 16 | | for policies issued or renewed before July 1, 2012, and in the | 17 | | amount of $1,000,000 for any personal injury liability | 18 | | insurance policy issued or renewed on and after July 1, 2012 | 19 | | for any one person in any one accident, and
subject to the | 20 | | limit for one person. The minimum amount of personal injury | 21 | | liability insurance required person, $5,000,000 for two or more | 22 | | persons
injured by reason of the operation of the vehicle in | 23 | | any one accident is as follows: accident. |
