| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Martin "Marty" Albert Powers of Elgin, | 4 | | who passed away on June 23, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martin Powers was born to Dr. Richard and Dorothy | 6 | | Powers and raised in Elgin; he received his undergraduate and | 7 | | graduate degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Martin Powers worked as a basketball coach and | 9 | | English and drama teacher at Kimball Middle School for the past | 10 | | 24 years; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Martin Powers was an avid fan of the Northwestern | 12 | | Wildcats and the Elgin High School Maroons; he was a frequent | 13 | | patron of community theatre, the Gail Borden Library, Paul's, | 14 | | and Al's; he was a prolific writer, performer, and speaker and | 15 | | formed the Powers Entertainment group to produce and promote | 16 | | film; he gave memorable performances in local theatre | 17 | | productions including "Dial M for Murder" and "It's a Wonderful | 18 | | Life"; he enjoyed playing golf, listening to classic Rock N' | 19 | | Roll, and the Beatles; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Martin Powers was preceded in death by his parents | 21 | | and his brother, Michael; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Martin Powers is survived by his brothers, Jerry, | 2 | | David, and Craig (Nancy); his sister, Carole Akemann; his | 3 | | nieces and nephews, Chris, Jordan, Taylor, Maggie, Lauren, Max, | 4 | | and Jason (Jennifer) Akemann and Jessica (Peter) Isaac; his | 5 | | aunt and uncle, John and Marilyn Simpson; and his cousins, Jeff | 6 | | (Bertie), Janet (Mick), Doug (Stacey), Diane, and Laura; and he | 7 | | was the great uncle of John and Andrew Isaac and Grace Akemann; | 8 | | therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Martin Albert Powers, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 13 | | further
