| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Warren W. Schwulst of New Smyrna Beach, | 4 | | Florida, formerly of Bloomington, who passed away on May 2, | 5 | | 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Warren Schwulst was born in Gilman to Cornelia | 7 | | (Wiegand) and Carl F. Schwulst Sr. on February 11, 1921; he was | 8 | | raised in Bloomington with his brother and sister; after his | 9 | | mother died, Alma Marie Wittrock became his stepmother, and her | 10 | | children, Joan and John, joined the family; he attended the | 11 | | University of Illinois, where he studied architecture; his | 12 | | studies were interrupted by his service in the United States | 13 | | Army Air Corps, where he was a first lieutenant during the | 14 | | Japanese occupation; he married Anna Jane Wilcox in McLean on | 15 | | May 1, 1945 while on military leave; after his military | 16 | | service, he returned to college and graduated with a degree in | 17 | | architectural engineering in 1947; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, After graduation, Warren Schwulst joined the | 19 | | family business, Schwulst Lumber and Coal Company, with his | 20 | | father and brother, Carl Jr.; he facilitated the transition of | 21 | | the company to a manufacturing center for floor and roof | 22 | | trusses, changing its name to Schwulst Building Center; in | 23 | | 1979, he became an Illinois licensed architect; he became the |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Warren Schwulst moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida | 3 | | with his wife in 1992; after moving, he embraced technology, | 4 | | learning to use architectural design software and staying in | 5 | | touch with family and friends via email and social media; he | 6 | | was an avid golfer, playing well into his 90s; he will be | 7 | | remembered as one who cared deeply about his family and had a | 8 | | sense of humor; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Warren Schwulst was preceded in death by his wife, | 10 | | Anna; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Warren Schwulst is survived by his brother, John | 12 | | (Susan) Schwulst; his sister, Joan Blake; his children, Suzanne | 13 | | (Steve) Gandy, Paul (Barbara) Schwulst, Janet (Jason) Popelka, | 14 | | Mary (Mike) Falk, and Kevin (Sue) Schwulst; his 11 | 15 | | grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, | 16 | | Martha Pitts; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, | 17 | | great-nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
