| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ana (Agavnie) Paparigian of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on May 3, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was born in Baku, Azerbaijan to | 6 | | Haroutiun and Nevart (Der Manuelian) Kasparian on December 15, | 7 | | 1920; her parents were early refugees from the Armenian | 8 | | genocide; the family emigrated to Cuba, where she excelled in | 9 | | school; on September 26, 1946, she emigrated to the United | 10 | | States; she married Merron Paparigian of Waukegan; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was a professional seamstress | 12 | | along the North Shore area with clients ranging from brides and | 13 | | performers to politicians and professionals; her talent was | 14 | | creating stylish clothing without the need for extensive | 15 | | measuring; later in life, she completed approximately 1,000 | 16 | | crocheted afghans for family and friends across the United | 17 | | States, Armenia, Poland, Nagorno Karabagh, Cuba, and Mexico; | 18 | | and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was a founding member of the St. | 20 | | George Armenian Apostolic Church of Waukegan and a past | 21 | | president of the Women's Guild; she served the church in many | 22 | | capacities, including as a member of the altar guild and a chef |

| 1 | | for bake sales and picnics; she taught herself English, | 2 | | Armenian, and Spanish and served as a translator for the grade | 3 | | schools and legal community of Waukegan; she was an unofficial | 4 | | ambassador for the Armenian community in Waukegan and regaled | 5 | | visitors with her knowledge of the community's history; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian was preceded in death by her | 7 | | parents; her husband, Merron; her brother, Gaspar Kasparian; | 8 | | and her great-grandson, Nickolas Wolf Knight; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ana Paparigian is survived by her children, Nvart | 10 | | Riley and Nishan (Joan) Paparigian; her sisters, Estrella | 11 | | (Arpenig) Kasparian and Sara Perez Kasparian; her | 12 | | grandchildren, Dr. Summer Knight, Adam Sharani, Jefri (Naomi) | 13 | | Sharani, Chelsea (Jason) French, and Cory (Heather) | 14 | | Paparigian; her seven great-grandchildren; and her many | 15 | | nieces, nephews, and dear friends; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Ana (Agavnie) Paparigian and extend our sincere condolences to | 19 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 20 | | further
