| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of
Geraldine Gregg-Horton; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine Gregg-Horton was born on December 7, | 5 |
| 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee; her parents were Hugh Rowlett and | 6 |
| Beatrice Brown; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine Gregg-Horton knew Christ at an early age | 8 |
| and was baptized at New Era Baptist Church; she was educated in | 9 |
| the public school system and graduated from Melrose High School | 10 |
| in 1948; that same year, she married Joseph Bernard "JB" Joy; | 11 |
| together, they had four children, Jerald Bernard, Claudia | 12 |
| Elaine, Linda Diane, and Wendell Bruce; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1957, Geraldine Gregg-Horton and her children | 14 |
| moved to Chicago, where her parents lived; after moving to | 15 |
| Chicago, she enrolled at Loop Junior College, attending school | 16 |
| at night when working during the day; she developed a love | 17 |
| affair with fashion after working at upscale department stores | 18 |
| Stanley Korshak and Bonwit Teller; during that time, she met | 19 |
| several professional women, who would later form a social club | 20 |
| called Nora Mack; Nora Mack would host formal events during the | 21 |
| early 1960s at venues like the Parkway Ballroom; the group | 22 |
| later changed its name to Friends Unlimited; and

| WHEREAS, In 1965, Geraldine Gregg-Horton married Edward T. | 2 |
| Gregg; together, they had on e child, Edward Thomas "Eddie" | 3 |
| Gregg Jr.; she then began her career as a "domestic engineer" | 4 |
| and continued raising her children; during that time, she | 5 |
| became active at her parish at Holy Name of Mary Church and | 6 |
| volunteered her time at young Eddie's school; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, After many years of raising her children, | 8 |
| Geraldine Gregg-Horton returned to work in the medical records | 9 |
| department of Louiseburg Hospital; she later retired from | 10 |
| Methodist Hospital; after her retirement, she continued her | 11 |
| volunteer service at her parish, performing many valuable | 12 |
| services for the congregation; she was also an active member of | 13 |
| the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 134; in | 14 |
| 1985, she married Andrew Horton; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine Gregg-Horton enjoyed traveling, eating | 16 |
| at new restaurants, watching movies, going to the theatre, | 17 |
| political fundraisers, meeting new people, and spending time | 18 |
| with her family; and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, Geraldine Gregg-Horton was preceded in death by | 20 |
| her second husband, Edward Gregg; her third husband, Andrew | 21 |
| Horton; her daughter, Claudia; and her son, Edward Gregg Jr.; | 22 |
| and

| WHEREAS, Geraldine Gregg-Horton is survived by her | 2 |
| children, Jerald, Linda (Steve), and Wendell (Cheryl); her | 3 |
| grandchildren, LaToya, Stephanie (Derrick), Deneshia | 4 |
| (Shannon), Takiyah, Alexis, Brett, and Julia; her | 5 |
| great-grandchildren, Nayia, Joshua, Sierra, London, Jordan, | 6 |
| Olivia, and Kyler; her aunt, Annie Hall; and her many cousins, | 7 |
| other family members, and friends, including her best friend, | 8 |
| Grace Vera; therefore, be it
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 10 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 11 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Geraldine Gregg-Horton; | 12 |
| and be it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 |
| presented to the family of Geraldine Gregg-Horton as an | 15 |
| expression of our sympathy.
