| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Nancy Corbett Dillon of River Forest, who | 4 | | passed away on November 19, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She was born February 20, 1924, in Chicago, the | 6 | | second daughter of Helen Rodgers Corbett and John Roland | 7 | | Corbett; she attended St. Luke Elementary School and Trinity | 8 | | High School in River Forest; she attended Rollins College in | 9 | | Winter Park, Florida, on a full scholarship for tennis; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, She was introduced to tennis, her lifelong | 11 | | passion, in the summer of 1938, at the River Forest Tennis | 12 | | Club; at Rollins College she had the privilege of playing with | 13 | | some of the most talented tennis players of the 1930s and | 14 | | 1940s, including Pauline Betz, Jack Kramer, Dodo Bundy, and | 15 | | Shirley Fry; she shared, with Fry, the National Clay Court | 16 | | Doubles Championship; she was ranked 17th in the nation at one | 17 | | point in her career, she was also Illinois State Champion and | 18 | | Midwestern Sectional Champion; she was named to the Rollins | 19 | | College Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the St. Luke's | 20 | | "Heart of the School" award; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, She married Robert "Lefty" Dillon, of River | 22 | | Forest, her high school sweetheart; she resided at 533 Forest |

| 1 | | Ave., in River Forest, named "Honorary Nancy Dillon Way" by the | 2 | | village in 2011 for her years of service; she served as a River | 3 | | Forest Village Trustee for more than 20 years, the longest term | 4 | | in the history of the village, retiring in 2009; she also | 5 | | taught social studies at Proviso East and West high schools and | 6 | | taught tennis during the summer months at the River Forest Park | 7 | | District (Keystone Park), the Oak Park Tennis Club, and the | 8 | | River Forest Tennis Club; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Nancy Corbett Dillon is survived by her sons, | 12 | | Robert F. Jr., David M., Stephen J. (Winnie), Daniel W. (Mary), | 13 | | and Jack E. (Sandra); her 15 grandchildren; and her 7 | 14 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 17 | | her family and friends, the passing of Nancy Corbett Dillon; | 18 | | and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Nancy Corbett Dillon as a symbol of | 21 | | our sincere sympathy.
