1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Art therapy is used to assist people to rise
3 above the illness, trauma, and challenges they face in life
4 through the healing potential of art; and
5 WHEREAS, Art therapists are trained professionals who use
6 art and therapy successfully to promote mental and physical
7 well being; and
8 WHEREAS, Art therapists have sensitivity to human needs
9 for reconciling emotional conflicts, fostering self
10 awareness, developing social skills, managing behavior,
11 solving problems, reducing anxiety, aiding reality
12 orientation, and increasing self-esteem; and
13 WHEREAS, Art therapists are regulated by the American Art
14 Therapy Association; and
15 WHEREAS, The national non-profit organization was founded
16 in 1969 and represents over 4,750 individuals, including
17 approximately 280 therapists in the State of Illinois; and
18 WHEREAS, The American Art Therapy Association is
19 convening its annual national conference November 19 through
20 November 23, 2003, in Chicago; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23 we proclaim the week of November 16, 2003, as the American
24 Art Therapy Association Week in the State of Illinois; and be
25 it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to the American Art Therapy Association leaders as
28 a token of our respect and esteem for their efforts on behalf
29 of the citizens of the State of Illinois.
