| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Albert "Al" Gillespie, Jr. | 4 |
| of Chicago on Monday, September 26, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gillespie was born on March 18, 1937, in | 6 |
| Starkville, Mississippi to Albert Gillespie, Sr. and Gussie | 7 |
| Malone Gillespie; he received his formal education in the | 8 |
| public schools of Starkville, Mississippi; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gillespie's enthusiasm for an opportunity to | 10 |
| be gainfully employed led him to relocate to Chicago; he worked | 11 |
| in the South Water Market District for thirty-two years; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gillespie's zeal for his vocation and his work | 13 |
| ethics made him an invaluable employee; in 1997, he retired | 14 |
| from the Strube Celery and Vegetable Company; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He embraced the Christian religion and became a | 16 |
| devoted Catholic; he was an active member of St. Benedict The | 17 |
| African Church and was a faithful member of its Men's Club; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gillespie was an avid golfer who consistently | 19 |
| endeavored to be the "best"; he was loving, friendly, sharing, | 20 |
| and outgoing; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Though Mr. Gillespie was an outstanding employee | 22 |
| and he loved to play golf, his devotion and enduring love for | 23 |
| his soul-mate of sixteen years, Ruth Douglas-Gillespie, | 24 |
| family, and friends were paramount; he was someone they could | 25 |
| depend on; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his | 27 |
| brother, Jodie Outlaw; and |

| WHEREAS, The passing of Albert "Al" Gillespie has been | 2 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Ruth | 3 |
| Douglas-Gillespie; his five children, Albert Gillespie III, | 4 |
| Anthony Gillespie, Jeanette Gillespie, Twana (Stephen) Cosey, | 5 |
| and Jesse Douglas; his seven grandchildren; his two brothers, | 6 |
| Malone Gillespie and James (Ondria) Gillespie; his two sisters, | 7 |
| Theresa Lucious and Rosie Dancer; his three uncles, William | 8 |
| Malone, Walter Malone, and Julius Horton; his three aunts, | 9 |
| Nancy Norris, Maggie (Fenton) Peters, and Ollie Mae Bell; his | 10 |
| two brothers-in-law, James Williams and Jeffery (Sandra) | 11 |
| Williams; his two sisters-in-law, Janie (Jodie) Outlaw and | 12 |
| Kathy (Lee) Williams-Harris; his three very special friends, | 13 |
| Charles Curry, James Sankey, and Napoleon Stevenson; and a host | 14 |
| of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 16 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 |
| Albert "Al" Gillespie, and we extend our sincerest condolences | 18 |
| to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 19 |
| it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 22 |
| sympathy for their loss.
