| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to | 4 |
| the family and friends of United States Army Captain Travis | 5 |
| Patriquin of Lockport, who was killed in action in Iraq on | 6 |
| December 6, 2006; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Travis Patriquin was born on August 15, 1974; his | 8 |
| parents are Gary and Connie Patriquin; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He attended St. Dennis School in Lockport, | 10 |
| graduating from eighth grade in 1988; he graduated from Francis | 11 |
| Howell North High School in 1992; after graduation he enlisted | 12 |
| in the United States Army; he was recommended for admission to | 13 |
| West Point but declined the offer to pursue Ranger training; | 14 |
| and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Captain Patriquin was part of an elite Special | 16 |
| Forces unit that served in Central America from 1992 to 1997 | 17 |
| where he learned local dialects; in 1997 he returned to Fort | 18 |
| Campbell and was sent to a language school in Monterey, | 19 |
| California, where he learned "the Kings" Arabic; he then met an | 20 |
| Arab family and learned the common form of the language; he | 21 |
| later attended officer school at Fort Benning; and

| WHEREAS, After the September 11th attacks in New York City, | 2 |
| he led a unit in Afghanistan that is credited with starting | 3 |
| Operation Anaconda; while serving in Afghanistan he received | 4 |
| the Bronze Star; while he was recovering from injuries he | 5 |
| worked toward and received his college degree, with a major in | 6 |
| Psychology and a minor in history; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Captain Patriquin served with the 1st Brigade, 1st | 8 |
| Armored Division, and was serving in Tikrit, Iraq, with the | 9 |
| special forces; while serving in Iraq he developed a program to | 10 |
| help reach out to local Iraqi leaders; this program has become | 11 |
| an unofficial how to manual on winning the war and has been | 12 |
| featured on major news networks; and | 13 |
| WHEREAS, Captain Patriquin was fluent in several | 14 |
| languages, including Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and two | 15 |
| Central American Indian dialects; he would reach out to anyone | 16 |
| willing to learn and would tutor anyone in Arabic; he was a | 17 |
| caring man who was a friend to both Americans and Iraqis and | 18 |
| his leadership will be greatly missed; and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, Army Captain Travis Patriquin is survived by his | 20 |
| wife, Amy; his children, Emily, Harmon, and Logan; his | 21 |
| siblings, Daniel, Karrie, and Steven; and his parents, Gary and | 22 |
| Connie Patriquin; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 3 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United | 4 |
| States Army Captain Travis Patriquin; and be it further
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Captain Patriquin and | 6 |
| his willingness to serve our country which led to him making | 7 |
| the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further | 8 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 |
| presented to the family of Captain Travis Patriquin, along with | 10 |
| our utmost respect.
