| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Vera Simon of Peoria, who passed away on | 4 | | August 25, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Vera Simon was born on September 4, 1918 in | 6 | | Toluca; her parents were Theodore and Antonia (Pisciatelli) | 7 | | Bartolomucci, which was shortened to Bartolo; she married her | 8 | | childhood friend, United States Navy Seaman 1st Class Earl T. | 9 | | Simon, on June 22, 1944; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Vera Simon graduated from St. Bernard's Grade | 11 | | School in 1933; she was a devoted member of St. Bernard's | 12 | | Parish for more than 70 years; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Peoria Central High School | 14 | | with a focus in business, Vera Simon worked for Kay Jewelers in | 15 | | Peoria; she later transferred to Kay Jewelers in Long Beach, | 16 | | California; after her husband completed his tour in the Navy, | 17 | | the couple moved back to Peoria to start their family; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Vera Simon worked for Cohen Furniture Company for | 19 | | 28 years until her retirement; during her career, she won many | 20 | | top furniture and appliance sales awards; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Vera Simon was preceded in death by her husband, | 2 | | Earl Simon; her son, Arnie Simon; her brother, Vincent Bartolo; | 3 | | her sister, Edna Fox; and her granddaughter, Keiya (Laurie | 4 | | Winkler) Dancer; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Vera Simon is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne | 6 | | Winkler; her son, Gary Simon; her grandchildren, Shelley, Tim, | 7 | | and Lindsay Winkler, Kara Amador, Brock Simon, Tony Simon, and | 8 | | Kellen Linderman; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | 11 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Vera Simon; and be it | 12 | | further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Vera Simon as an expression of our | 15 | | sympathy.
