| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marion | 4 | | Flynn of Evanston, who passed away on October 8, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was born in Holbrook, Massachusetts | 6 | | on January 22, 1952; she attended Catholic schools, including | 7 | | Archbishop Williams High School in her hometown; she earned | 8 | | her bachelor's degree in Theology and English from Newton | 9 | | College of the Sacred Heart in Newton Centre, Massachusetts in | 10 | | 1974; she moved to Chicago in 1974; she earned her MBA from | 11 | | Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in | 12 | | 1980; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn worked as a corporate banker for 33 | 14 | | years; she began her career at Continental Bank in 1974, where | 15 | | she later served as a vice president; she retired as senior | 16 | | vice president of Bank of America in 2007; she then worked as a | 17 | | development associate for Frances Xavier Warde School in 2007 | 18 | | and as a development manager for the North Shore United Way | 19 | | from 2011 to 2013; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was committed to helping others and | 21 | | well known for her volunteerism; she donated countless hours | 22 | | to a number of nonprofit organizations, including Meals On |

| 1 | | Wheels Northeastern Illinois and Meals at Home from 2013 to | 2 | | 2017, YWCA Evanston, YWCA North Shore, the Illinois Holocaust | 3 | | Museum & Education Center, the Child Restoration Outreach | 4 | | Support Organization (CROSO) to educate street children in | 5 | | Uganda, the Open Communities fair housing agency, the North | 6 | | Shore United Way, and the United Way of Evanston; she served on | 7 | | several boards, including Connections for Abused Women and | 8 | | their Children (CAWC) as board chair from 1980 to 1986, | 9 | | Evanston's Parks and Recreation Board from 1983 to 1993, the | 10 | | United Way of Evanston as a member and president from 1999 to | 11 | | 2009, CROSO since 2009, and the YWCA Steering Committee since | 12 | | 2014; she was also a strong supporter of the School District 65 | 13 | | PTA Equity Project; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn felt called to the priesthood and | 15 | | advocated for women to be ordained in the Catholic Church for | 16 | | many years; she also believed in integrating social activism | 17 | | and Catholic religious traditions by helping the poor, | 18 | | combating social injustice, and reforming social structures; | 19 | | she served as a board member and treasurer of the Women's | 20 | | Ordination Conference since 2013, which is based in | 21 | | Washington, D.C.; she planted a seed for an entire younger | 22 | | generation of women to work to advocate for women in the | 23 | | Catholic Church and worked for the renewal of the Catholic | 24 | | Church to be more people-centered; while she was not ordained | 25 | | as a priest, she truly lived a life of service and charity; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was a member of St. Nicholas Church | 2 | | in Evanston for more than 30 years, where she served as church | 3 | | treasurer, door greeter, lector, and trainer of lectors; she | 4 | | was a member of the Parish Council, the Finance Council, and | 5 | | the Holiday Festival Committee; she also co-founded the | 6 | | church's LGBTQ ministry; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was known for her patience, | 8 | | kindness, and generosity; she enjoyed playing mah-jongg and | 9 | | softball, and she managed Evanston's Girls Night Out softball | 10 | | team for more than 20 years; she will be remembered for her | 11 | | life of service and her ability to create community everywhere | 12 | | she went; she will be greatly missed by all; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn was preceded in death by her | 14 | | sibling, Alton; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Marion Flynn is survived by her son, James Price | 16 | | (Anna Domenick); her granddaughter, Lula; and her sisters, | 17 | | Kathleen Flynn and Evelyn Mavilia; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 19 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 20 | | we mourn the passing of Marion Flynn and extend our sincere | 21 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
