| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| 3 |
| Representatives would like to honor Glenda Fulton for the work | 4 |
| she has done for her community in the fight against | 5 |
| sarcoidosis; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a disease involving inflammation | 7 |
| that produces tiny lumps of cells in various organs in the | 8 |
| body; the lumps are called granulomas, which are very small and | 9 |
| can be seen only with a microscope;
the tiny granulomas can | 10 |
| grow and clump together, making many large and small lumps, | 11 |
| potentially affecting organ function; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in | 13 |
| 1975; since her diagnosis, she has helped focus national | 14 |
| attention on this disease through her public and pro-active | 15 |
| stance toward educating others and through her public advocacy; | 16 |
| she has been on the cutting edge of research and efforts to | 17 |
| promote education and awareness about sarcoidosis; she has | 18 |
| spoken on numerous occasions and presented information on many | 19 |
| topics relevant to services and educational awareness about the | 20 |
| disease; she has been a speaker, presenter, and panelist at | 21 |
| numerous sarcoidosis conferences throughout the State and has | 22 |
| been involved in efforts to develop sarcoidosis support groups; | 23 |
| she has written grants to secure financial support for |

| sarcoidosis research and awareness issues and assisted with | 2 |
| other fundraising activities, including setting up the JSRC's | 3 |
| first Walk-A-Thon in Houston, Texas, grant initiatives, and | 4 |
| live radio shows; she submitted an abstract to the WASOG | 5 |
| Congress, which was accepted for the June 2002 meeting in | 6 |
| Stockholm, Sweden; in 1995, she founded the National | 7 |
| Sarcoidosis Society, Inc., an organization that has been very | 8 |
| successful in bringing educational awareness, services, | 9 |
| advocacy, support, and research initiatives to health care | 10 |
| providers, the public at large, elected officials, and to its | 11 |
| many networking partners, such as the African American Family | 12 |
| Research Institute and the Minority Women Association; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton was born on September 24, 1950; she | 14 |
| received her education through the Chicago public schools; she | 15 |
| attended Drake Grammar School and Oakenwald Upper Grade School, | 16 |
| then went on to Forrestville High School and Northern Illinois | 17 |
| University; she has acquired expertise and experience in the | 18 |
| areas of Certified Nursing Technician, Medical Technician, | 19 |
| Mentor, Health Caretaker for HIV and cocaine addicted babies, | 20 |
| Rehabilitation Nursing, and Hospice; she was the Head Volunteer | 21 |
| for the Chicago Board of Education and the P.T.A. Advisory | 22 |
| Committee for Grammar, Elementary, and High Schools, as well as | 23 |
| the John Hope Community Academy and Martin Luther King High | 24 |
| School; she was a volunteer for the Northside Chicago Boys and | 25 |
| Girls Club of America; she is a surrogate parent for the |

| Department of Children and Family Services and the Board of | 2 |
| Education; she has served on several boards and committees on | 3 |
| the national, regional, State, and local levels; she assisted | 4 |
| with the passing of House Bill 2564, House Bill 2470, House | 5 |
| Bill 2479, House Bill 2480, House Bill 2485, and House Bill | 6 |
| 2486; she is the Chairperson for the Regional Organ Bank of | 7 |
| Illinois (now known as the Gift of Hope); she has been a | 8 |
| volunteer for the AmeriCorp Vista Illinois Institute of | 9 |
| Technology, The National Institute of Health, the National | 10 |
| Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and the Public Interest | 11 |
| Organization; she is a member of the Chicago Center of | 12 |
| Excellence in Health Promotion Economics; she developed a task | 13 |
| force with the Chicago Department of Public Health and | 14 |
| Commissioner Terry Mason; she has acquired many accolades, | 15 |
| trophies, certificates, plaques, citations, awards, and | 16 |
| personal letters of commendation from First Proclamation on | 17 |
| Sarcoidosis in Detroit, Michigan, the National Sarcoidosis | 18 |
| Society Bernie Mac and Nike Shoe Giveaway in 2002, the | 19 |
| 4Women.gov Women Day Conference 2006, and the Martin Luther | 20 |
| King Youth Program in January 2007; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Glenda Fulton is married to Charles E. Skillom; | 22 |
| she is the mother of three daughters, Sheree Fulton-Jackson, | 23 |
| Gernard Fulton, and Shetanys Fulton; she is the grandmother of | 24 |
| Darrius Fulton, Nada Johnson, Chanel Jackson, Sydney Jackson; | 25 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
| 3 |
| honor Glenda Fulton for her fight against sarcoidosis and wish | 4 |
| her continued health and happiness in the future; and be it | 5 |
| further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 7 |
| presented to Glenda Fulton as a symbol of our esteem and | 8 |
| respect.
