1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Joe
4 Turner "J.T." Latin of Rockford on November 10, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Latin was born July 29, 1926, in Prescott,
6 Arkansas, the son of Artis and Pearl Latin; he married the
7 former Gladys Clark August 17, 1948, in Gurden, Arkansas; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Latin was employed as a heavy equipment
9 operator by the State of Illinois Highway Department for 25
10 years before retiring; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Latin was a faithful member of Allen Chapel
12 A.M.E. Church, serving in the male chorus, and a former
13 member of the trustee board and senior choir; he was a member
14 of RSGA (Rockford Sportsman Golf Association), and many
15 bowling teams and leagues including the Rockford Travelers;
16 he was an umpire for many years, for which he received an
17 award and was inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame in 2001;
18 and
19 WHEREAS, Mr. Latin's passing will be deeply felt by many,
20 especially his wife of 55 years, Gladys; his daughter, Joyce
21 Marie Dismuke; his sons, Joe Artis, Jerry Lewis, Dewayne
22 Michael, and Bruce Anthony Latin; his 16 grandchildren; his
23 seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Joyce Smith and
24 Galvesta Lindsey; his brother, Charlie William (Rosetta)
25 Latin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
26 friends; and
27 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; eight
28 brothers including his twin, L.P. Latin; and four sisters;
29 therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we mourn the death of Joe Turner "J.T." Latin along with all
2 who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to
3 his family and friends; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the family of Joe Turner "J.T." Latin as an
6 expression of our deepest sympathy.
