SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Illinois Cultivated Meat Act. Provides that it is unlawful for any person to manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute cultivated meat. Provides that a person who knowingly violates this Act commits a Class C misdemeanor. Allows for rulemaking by the Department of Agriculture. Makes a finding and states the purpose. Defines cultivated meat.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Illinois Cultivated Meat Act.
 
6    Section 5. Finding and purpose. The General Assembly finds
7that the manufacture, sale, and distribution of cultivated
8meat is a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the
9people of the State of Illinois. It is the purpose of this Act
10to prevent and prohibit the manufacture, sale, and
11distribution of cultivated meat in the State of Illinois.
 
12    Section 10. Definition of cultivated meat. In this Act,
13"cultivated meat" means any meat or food product produced from
14cultured animal cells.
 
15    Section 15. Cultivated meat unlawful. It is unlawful for
16any person to manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for
17sale, or distribute cultivated meat.
 
18    Section 20. Penalties. A person who knowingly violates
19this Act commits a Class C misdemeanor.

1    Section 25. Rulemaking. The Department of Agriculture may
2adopt rules that promote the purpose of this Act.
