SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

New Act

Creates the Illinois Cultivated Meat Act. Provides that it is unlawful for any person to manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute cultivated meat. Provides that a person who knowingly violates this Act commits a Class C misdemeanor. Allows for rulemaking by the Department of Agriculture. Makes a finding and states the purpose. Defines cultivated meat.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning regulation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Illinois Cultivated Meat Act.

Section 5. Finding and purpose. The General Assembly finds that the manufacture, sale, and distribution of cultivated meat is a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the people of the State of Illinois. It is the purpose of this Act to prevent and prohibit the manufacture, sale, and distribution of cultivated meat in the State of Illinois.

Section 10. Definition of cultivated meat. In this Act, "cultivated meat" means any meat or food product produced from cultured animal cells.

Section 15. Cultivated meat unlawful. It is unlawful for any person to manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute cultivated meat.

Section 20. Penalties. A person who knowingly violates this Act commits a Class C misdemeanor.

Section 25. Rulemaking. The Department of Agriculture may adopt rules that promote the purpose of this Act.
