| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gerhard Baass of Lake Forest, who passed | 4 | | away on June 15, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gerhard Baass was born and raised in Hamburg, | 6 | | Germany; he earned his master's degree in mechanical | 7 | | engineering and gained his first work experience in the German | 8 | | automotive industry; he crossed the Atlantic on a freighter | 9 | | ship at the age of 27 and settled in the Chicago area; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Gerhard Baass met Brunhild on a visit back to | 11 | | Germany and she joined him in America; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Gerhard Baass was passionate about family and | 13 | | work, always placing the well-being of his family first; he | 14 | | enjoyed traveling, boating, and walks along Lake Michigan; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Gerhard Baass proudly became a United States | 16 | | citizen in 1984; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Gerhard Baass is survived by his wife of 50 years, | 18 | | Brunhild; his son, Michael (Michelle), and their children, | 19 | | Nicolas and Marco; his daughter, Andrea (Anthony) Peters, and | 20 | | their children, Alexander, Anna, and Oliver; his son, Karsten; |

| 1 | | and his sisters, Ursel, Christa, and Ingrid; therefore, be it
| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 4 | | Gerhard Baass, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 6 | | further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of Gerhard Baass as an expression of | 9 | | our deepest sympathy.
