| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Landon | 4 | | "Walk" Walker Jr., who passed away on January 8, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker was born to Landon Walker Sr. and | 6 | | Arthalia Miller Walker in Waterford, Mississippi on February | 7 | | 8, 1940; he attended Landon Elementary School, which was built | 8 | | by his father to serve the Laws Hills, Mississippi community; | 9 | | he went to Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi for one | 10 | | year; he married Bobra Jean Falkner on February 1, 1959; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker worked various jobs across a number | 12 | | of industries, including steel, public transportation, and | 13 | | state government; he owned and operated a painting and | 14 | | construction business, a hand car wash, a delivery and | 15 | | messenger truck service, and a school bus company; he also | 16 | | worked at a local family-owned business named Falkner Bumper; | 17 | | and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker began working as assistant | 19 | | superintendent for the City of Harvey Public Works Department | 20 | | in 1982; he was eventually appointed to superintendent, and he | 21 | | served in that role until his retirement in 1995; while in | 22 | | retirement, he became a part-time bus driver for Beckham |

| 1 | | School Transit Company and later for Alltown; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker was politically involved and served | 3 | | as precinct captain of Harvey; he ran for city commissioner | 4 | | and alderman in Harvey; he also helped local candidates with | 5 | | their political campaigns; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker committed to his faith at a young | 7 | | age and attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Laws | 8 | | Hills, Mississippi as a child; he was an active member of | 9 | | Christ Temple Baptist Church in Markham, where he became a | 10 | | member in 1967 and served in the usher ministry; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker enjoyed helping youth and adults in | 12 | | his community with employment opportunities or simply | 13 | | providing them with a family atmosphere; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker was preceded in death by his wife; | 15 | | his parents; his sister, Azelle Alexander; and his brothers, | 16 | | Lannie Cummings, Russell Walker, Asa Walker, Leslie Walker, | 17 | | and George Walker; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Landon Walker is survived by his children, Brenda | 19 | | (Davis) Mason, Ricky (Bridgett) Walker-Abdul Baari, Perry | 20 | | (Iris) Walker, Kerry L. (Andria) Walker, and Kanefus Walker; | 21 | | his 12 grandchildren; his 21 great-grandchildren; his |

| 1 | | siblings, Eldridge (Deborah) Walker, McEwen (Urma) Walker, and | 2 | | Hattie Marion; his sisters-in-law, Mattie Walker, Ella | 3 | | Washington, Wheelock Patrick, Sarah Summerville, and Mary | 4 | | Falkner; his brother-in-law, Kent Falkner; his special | 5 | | cousins, Beatrice Miller-Peete, Robert Finley, and Charlie | 6 | | Walker; his niece, Fronnie Echols; and a host of other nieces, | 7 | | nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be | 8 | | it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 10 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 11 | | we mourn the passing of
Landon "Walk" Walker Jr. and extend our | 12 | | sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 13 | | and loved
