| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the | 4 | | founding of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law; | 5 | | and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sargent Shriver inspired those around him to | 7 | | believe that everyone deserves the right to equal access to | 8 | | justice and opportunity; today, the Shriver Center is one of | 9 | | the nation's leading advocates for the poor, giving a voice to | 10 | | people living in poverty; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The Shriver Center works to ensure that laws and | 12 | | policies provide low-income people with access to adequate | 13 | | health care, decent housing, a safety net, and opportunities to | 14 | | achieve their full potential; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The Shriver Center advocates across a range of | 16 | | issues important to people living in poverty, including asset | 17 | | building, budget and tax issues, criminal justice, early | 18 | | childhood, education, healthcare, housing, and issues | 19 | | affecting women and girls; it provides free legal | 20 | | representation and represents clients in state and federal | 21 | | court and before administrative agencies, both in class actions | 22 | | and in individual cases; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Shriver Center is a national network of | 2 | | lawyers, community organizers, activists, researchers, | 3 | | litigators, and philanthropists from every state; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Sargent Shriver famously and frequently posed two | 5 | | questions: "What have you done today to make this a better | 6 | | world? What will you do tomorrow?"; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 8 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 9 | | recognize the 50th anniversary the Sargent Shriver National | 10 | | Center on Poverty Law, and we wish them many more years of | 11 | | success; and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the Shriver Center as a symbol of our respect and | 14 | | esteem.
