| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, After 25 years of dedicated service to Tishman | 3 |
| Construction Corporation (TCC), Ronald E. Materick, P.E., has | 4 |
| retired from his positions as President of the Western Region | 5 |
| and Executive Vice President of Tishman Realty & Construction | 6 |
| Co., Inc.; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, A native of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Mr. | 8 |
| Materick earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil | 9 |
| Engineering from McMaster University in Ontario, where he | 10 |
| received the "Professional Engineer's Gold Medal for Academic | 11 |
| Achievement"; he went on to gain a Master of Business | 12 |
| Administration from the University of Chicago and attended a | 13 |
| summer course in Construction Management at the Massachusetts | 14 |
| Institute of Technology; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, After rising through the ranks of two established | 16 |
| construction organizations, he joined Tishman in 1979 as | 17 |
| President and COO of the Midwest Region; as the head of the | 18 |
| Chicago Office, his responsibilities extended to all Tishman | 19 |
| activities across 20 states; at the time of his arrival, there | 20 |
| were only eight Tishman staff members based in Chicago; during | 21 |
| his tenure, he recruited some of the finest available talent | 22 |
| across multiple disciplines to build that office into what it | 23 |
| is today; the office oversaw a ten-fold increase in annual | 24 |
| construction volume from approximately $30 million to $300 | 25 |
| million and a proportionate increase in profitability; and
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, In 1998, Mr. Materick assumed responsibility for | 27 |
| all of Tishman's Western Region operations, extending from the | 28 |
| Allegheny Mountains in the east to Hawaii in the west; in this | 29 |
| leadership capacity, he has overseen the planning and | 30 |
| construction of a diverse roster of projects totaling several | 31 |
| billion dollars, including Gateway IV, PPG Place, Metropolitan | 32 |
| Square in downtown St. Louis, Arlington International |

| Racecourse, Hotel Nikko (now the Westin River North), the | 2 |
| Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, the Chicago Public Schools | 3 |
| Capital Improvement Program, the Chicago Housing Authority | 4 |
| Capital Improvement Program, and McCormick Place West; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, More than just a builder, Mr. Materick has | 6 |
| dedicated significant time, energy, and resources to | 7 |
| industry-related and altruistic pursuits; described by | 8 |
| colleagues as being "consistent, dependable, and unswerving", | 9 |
| these character traits have manifested themselves in his life | 10 |
| outside of Tishman as well; he is a member and former Chairman | 11 |
| of the Building Industry Council of the Landmarks Preservation | 12 |
| Council of Illinois, working to preserve and restore Chicago's | 13 |
| landmark and historic buildings; he sits on the Board of | 14 |
| Directors of the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and is a | 15 |
| founding member of the Chicago Construction & Real Estate | 16 |
| Council of the City of Hope; in 1991, he received the | 17 |
| organization's "Spirit of Life Award" in recognition of his | 18 |
| outstanding career achievements; in 1999, he was named | 19 |
| "Chicago's Contractor of the Year" by the Coalition for United | 20 |
| Community Action; in conjunction with that award, Chicago Mayor | 21 |
| Richard M. Daley proclaimed June 26, 1999, to be "Ronald E. | 22 |
| Materick Day" in the city; and

| WHEREAS, Other philanthropic endeavors include sponsoring | 24 |
| the Ronald E. Materick Scholarship program at his alma mater, | 25 |
| McMaster University, and the Ronald E. Materick Bursaries | 26 |
| through McMaster Financial Aid and the Province of Ontario; he | 27 |
| also established a fellowship in his name to fund the research | 28 |
| and treatment of childhood leukemia at City of Hope National | 29 |
| Medical Center in Duarte, California; and
| 30 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Materick looks forward to spending time with | 31 |
| his family; he and his wife Karen have been married for 43 | 32 |
| years; they have two grown sons, J. Bradley, age 31, and Craig, | 33 |
| age 29, as well as a 4-year-old granddaughter, Katie; |

| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 4 |
| we congratulate Ronald E. Materick, P.E., on the occasion of | 5 |
| his retirement after 25 years of service at Tishman | 6 |
| Construction Corporation, and we salute his many | 7 |
| accomplishments during that time; and be it further
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 |
| presented to him as an expression of our respect and esteem and | 10 |
| with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
