| 2 | | WHEREAS, Freddie Leon Savage, Jr. was born on October 20, | 3 | | 1932 in Wabbaseka, Arkansas to the union of Freddie L. and Ruby | 4 | | Jewel Savage, Sr., the eldest of 10 children; he attended | 5 | | Edmund C. Burke Elementary School when the family moved to | 6 | | Chicago in 1943 for approximately one year due to a fire at the | 7 | | family's kitchenette apartment; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Once the family settled at the Altgeld Gardens | 9 | | Housing Development in February of 1945, with his 7 siblings, | 10 | | Freddie Savage, Jr. enrolled at George Washington Carver | 11 | | Elementary School; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Freddie Savage, Jr. worked after school at the | 13 | | Roseland Bowling Alley and ultimately gained employment at the | 14 | | Pershing Hotel as a bellman; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, A hardworking young man, while working as a | 16 | | bellman, Freddie Savage, Jr. attended and graduated from | 17 | | Chicago Vocational High School in 1951; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1955, Freddie Savage, Jr. met Yvonne E. Savage | 19 | | while she was working as a cook at the family's restaurant | 20 | | known as "the trailer" on 58th Street near Calumet; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The courtship ultimately led to marriage on | 2 | | February 8, 1958; to this union on March 1, 1961, Freddie L. | 3 | | Savage, III was born; on November 21, 1963, Sherri J. Savage | 4 | | was born; and on October 26, 1969, Britt L. Savage was born; | 5 | | and | 6 | | WHEREAS, While maintaining employment at the Inland Steel | 7 | | Mill from 1956 to 1986, Freddie Savage, Jr., a visionary, and | 8 | | Yvonne E. Savage, established Chesterfield Tom Thumb Day Care | 9 | | Center on October 12, 1970; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, A faithful member of the South Shore United | 11 | | Methodist Church for over 40 years, Freddie Savage, Jr. served | 12 | | as an usher, a board member of the trustees and the child care | 13 | | center, and with the food pantry; his commitment to youth led | 14 | | him to become a distinguished leader as the Scoutmaster of | 15 | | Troop 1500; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Instrumental in lives of many young men as a | 17 | | Scoutmaster, for over 25 years, Freddie Savage, Jr. tirelessly | 18 | | raised money for the troop by hosting the renowned fish fries; | 19 | | and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Freddie Savage, Jr., an exercise enthusiast, | 21 | | joined the board of the Jesse Owens Advisory Council; during | 22 | | his tenure, the council successfully assisted with the |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, On June 29, 2015, Freddie Savage, Jr. passed away, | 3 | | leaving behind a legacy of community involvement and civic | 4 | | engagement with love and compassion for his family, neighbors, | 5 | | and fellow churchgoers who will always remember the dedication | 6 | | of Mr. Savage; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 8 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 9 | | recognize the life, commitments, and achievements of Freddie L. | 10 | | Savage, Jr.; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Freddie Savage, Jr. as an expression | 13 | | of our deepest sympathy.
