| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Louis A. "Lou" Baron, who passed away on | 4 | | June 19, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 13, | 6 | | 1918; he graduated from Manley High School in Chicago in 1937; | 7 | | he joined the United States Army in 1940 and fought in the | 8 | | European Theater, earning the Bronze Star for bravery; he | 9 | | married Mary Waldman on March 14, 1943 and was discharged from | 10 | | the Army in 1945; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron returned to Chicago after the war and | 12 | | began working at the Centennial Laundry Company; in 1952, he | 13 | | founded the City Scrap Iron Company, which he later sold and | 14 | | then repurchased in 2011; he founded the Acme Refining Company | 15 | | in 1973 with one truck and 2 employees and it has grown into a | 16 | | company with 450 employees and $400 million in sales; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Affectionately known to many as "Papa Lou", Lou | 18 | | Baron was still showing up to work in his 90s telling people | 19 | | what they were doing wrong; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron received the Recycler of the Year Award | 21 | | in 2008 from the Illinois Recycling Association; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron was the son of Jenny Strock; the beloved | 2 | | husband of Mary Baron (nee Waldman); the loving father of Larry | 3 | | (Mary) and Iris; the dear brother of the late Irving, Lillian, | 4 | | Peter, and Anne; the loving grandfather of Brett, Lindsey, and | 5 | | Alex; and the loving great-grandfather of Brett, Vincent, | 6 | | Isabella, and Calvin; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Louis A. "Lou" Baron, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Lou Baron as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy.
