| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert | 4 | | "Bob" Ontiveros, who passed away on February 8, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Ontiveros was born to John and Josephine | 6 | | Ontiveros on August 17, 1938 and was raised with his siblings | 7 | | in Moline; he attended Moline High School where he competed in | 8 | | wrestling, track and field, and basketball; after high school, | 9 | | he attended the University of Cincinnati and Moline Community | 10 | | College; he married Blenda Crummer in 1960, and the couple had | 11 | | two children, Christopher and Gregg; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Bob and Blenda Ontiveros founded Bi-State | 13 | | Packaging, now known as the Group O, in 1974; Group O has grown | 14 | | from a small family business to one of the largest and | 15 | | top-ranking Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States | 16 | | with over $500 million and 1,000 employees; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Bob Ontiveros was known for being an active | 18 | | member and supporter of his community and a man with | 19 | | integrity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a values-based | 20 | | outlook; he was a believer in the power of higher education who | 21 | | established scholarships that supported several Quad Cities | 22 | | Hispanic students attending college each year, and he donated |

| 1 | | to several area post-secondary institutions; he was a great | 2 | | supporter of the local community who donated to the Boys and | 3 | | Girls Club, founded the Greater Quad Cities Chamber of | 4 | | Commerce, and funded construction of the Community Health | 5 | | Clinic to provide low-cost medical care; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bob Ontiveros was highly recognized for his | 7 | | business and humanitarian efforts and earned several | 8 | | prestigious awards; he was inducted into several halls of | 9 | | fame, including the Minority Business Hall of Fame, the Black | 10 | | Hawk College Hall of Fame, and the Junior Achievement of the | 11 | | Heartland Business Hall of Fame; he was also a member of the | 12 | | Jeremiah Milbank Society and a recipient of an honorary | 13 | | doctorate from Augustana College; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Bob Ontiveros was preceded in death by his | 15 | | parents and his siblings, Maria Elena, Lawrence, Rita, and | 16 | | Steven; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Bob Ontiveros is survived by his wife, Blenda; | 18 | | his sons, Christopher (Pamela) and Gregg; his siblings, John | 19 | | (Laura), Frank (Lorna), Christine (Jeff) Reem, Joanne (Ray) | 20 | | Bender, Michael, and Cindy (Dave) Newton; and his | 21 | | grandchildren, Emma, Stella, and Anna Catherine; therefore, be | 22 | | it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 2 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 3 | | we mourn the passing of Robert "Bob" Ontiveros and extend our | 4 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 5 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Bob Ontiveros as an expression of | 8 | | our deepest sympathy.
