| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John L. Davis, who passed away on June | 4 | | 22, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Davis was born in Boston, Massachusetts; he | 6 | | graduated from Indiana University, where he was an All-American | 7 | | defensive back on the 1949, 1950, and 1951 Indiana University | 8 | | football teams; in 3 years, he did not miss a minute of | 9 | | defensive play, and, in his last 2 seasons, the Hoosiers ranked | 10 | | in the top 3 in the nation in pass defense; he served in the | 11 | | United States Army; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After graduating with distinction, John Davis was | 13 | | a third round draft pick of the Chicago Cardinals in 1952, but | 14 | | declined the contract offer in order to continue his education | 15 | | and coaching; he continued as assistant freshman coach in 1952 | 16 | | and 1953 and advanced to become Indiana University's varsity | 17 | | backfield coach in 1954; he later moved to the Joliet area and | 18 | | embarked on a long career with Joliet Township High Schools, | 19 | | where he held numerous teaching, coaching, and administrative | 20 | | positions, including Dean of Students and Vice-Principal; upon | 21 | | retiring, he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for | 22 | | Indiana University; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Davis was an avid outdoorsman and spent many | 2 | | summers running a boys summer camp, Ottawa Trails, in the Upper | 3 | | Peninsula of Michigan; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Davis is survived by his wife of 59 years, | 5 | | Dorothy (nee Cassidy) Davis; his children, John T. Davis, | 6 | | Madonna (Mike) Gale, Gerard (Crystal) Davis, Kathleen (Len) | 7 | | Capristo, and Dennis (Claudia) Davis; his grandchildren, | 8 | | Michael Gale, Andrew Davis, Patrick Gale, Nicholas Davis, | 9 | | Gabrielle Davis, Ryne Davis, Sheridan Davis, and Tyler | 10 | | Capristo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be | 11 | | it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | John L. Davis, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of John Davis as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
